Most people don’t acknowledge the harm that the product can do to us human. Phones are great distractions, they help us escape reality through a screen, somewhere where we can be contacted when we want to and where there’s no pressure to do anything. They are a great tool to connect with relatives, friends, or any loved ones that don’t live close by. A Cellphone encourages us to meet new people not mattering if they live across the country or in a different one. No one really thinks to clean and sanitize a phone, because why would we have to? Let me tell you why! Germs and viruses have the ability to get someone sick or very ill. Whatever your hands come in contact with later on transfers to the phone when its touched. For example, throughout the day people shake hands, hug someone, eats, and touch anything in their way. After the germs take over the hands, the phone rings and as the article stated, “20% to 30% of all virus and bacteria were transmitted”. All the germs and viruses transfer to the phone and can later be consumed by the body while eating or touching the face. This is an easy way to get sick within weeks, days, or even months.
We can all say that whenever we use our phone for too long all at once our eyes get too watery or too dry. This is because we are working them too hard specially when there’s a bright light and tiny letters. This is what we call eye strain, the eyes are being over worked because we hold the phone too close to our face. The article’s research says, “Increase the font size to twice the smallest size you’re able to read” and “maintain a distance of at least 16 inches between the mobile screen and your eyes”. These are great ways to prevent or improve any eye

While it is true that the advantages of modern-day technology cannot, nor should be dismissed, some of the disadvantages must as equally importantly be acknowledged. (Subclaim 1) Though cell phones can actually cause isolation, cell phones simplify our lives and social media allows people to connect with each other and express themselves on a new platform.(Evidence 1) Our phones simplifies the mundane parts of our lives. As early as just 25 years ago, if you wanted to find directions you’re lost, you had to spend about twenty minutes looking for directions on a map. You wanted to find a piece of information? You had to sort through hundreds of pages on a big, bulky encyclopedia. Or even if you wanted to call your friend to hang out later, you had to go out and find a payphone. Our phones have allowed us to do all these things in an instant at the touch of a button. A researcher at Harvard University says…

All the time you see people’s eyes glued onto their phones and drowning the whole world out. People get so distracted from technology and they don’t really care about what’s going on around them, people tend to grow distant from people. When you go somewhere just look around, everybody has their phone or some other device in their hands, and if it’s not in their hands it’s near them. Americans are so attached to technology that it literally drives us away from families/friends. In the 1920’s this wasn’t a problem at all. They didn’t have the high technology that we have today but they still had phones and it didn’t cause them to grow distant from people. They would still go out and have a good time. But today, if you can’t have your cell phone with you, it’s like the end of the world. in the article “Smartphone Dependency: A Growing Obsession With Gadgets”, the writer says, “For others, being away from their phone will almost certainly cause separation anxiety.” This truly shows how attached americans are to their…

Face to face communication is becoming almost non-existent in our society today. Talking in person has become an option instead of a necessity. Sending a text or email has become much easier than having to walk to the next room to hold a conversation with that person. Obviously texting, email, and other forms of technology have its benefits and make life easier but the value of a conversation with someone else is deteriorating. Everything that can be said in person can now be said in a text message with a completely different impression of the emotion being portrayed. Along with face to face communication, people are missing out on the little things due to the attachment of their phones. The phone has almost become as essential as another body part. When walking around a college campus, about every student has a cell phone out texting or checking a voicemail instead of paying attention to the world around them. All the self-involvement in the cell phone causes a person to become more focused inwardly, which leaves less room for anything else such as the people around you or noticing how you feel about the things you are surrounded by. When you’re speaking on your cell phone, you…

Radiation is all over the place, and cannot be escaped. But the amount that one is exposed to can be lowered. Cell phones do not generate large amounts of radiation, but give off an amount similar to that of a large toaster oven. With over 300 million cell phone subscribers in the United States alone, it is not hard to see why this could cause a problem (CNN Health). Tissues in close contact to a radiation-emitting device will absorb radiation, so when one holds a cell phone near their face for an extended period of time, the radiation enters his/her body through the skin (National Cancer Institute). Over the last decade, research on radiation has increased tremendously, but there were no prior studies performed, especially on children. Through recent studies, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has listed cell phones as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” New studies, launched in 2010, are tracking individuals for twenty to thirty years monitoring their health related to their cell phone use (Cancer Risk).…

How many times are we at a restaurant and we see people at the same table all looking at their phones?’ ” My first phone was at the age of eighteen and I can relate to this completely. The dirtiest thing you own maybe your cell phone. Imagine what touches your phone the most, probably your hands and face. Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens everywhere today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria associated with health care associated infections, Karabay states, “Our study reveals that mobile phones may get contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread of nosocomial pathogens” (Karabay, 2007). Touching contaminated surfaces or objects such as a cell phone can pass and spread infection to immune-compromised patients. In order to combat the spread and break the chain of infection, the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals on hand hygiene suggests better hand washing practices to reduce the transmission of infectious agents.…

First consider how addictive technology has become. According to Sherry Turkle from TED Talk, her daughter spent time with her friends together looking at their mobile phones devices (Ted.com). These kids had so much fun on their mobile phones that they didn’t even look at their friends. On the other hand, technology became an essential part of our lives right now. Most of us spend time with our electronic devices that we forget where we were standing, what we were doing, or what is the purpose and objective of our life. What makes us addicted to mobile phones? Nowadays, we can do almost everything with our cellphones, such as playing videos games, accessing social networks, and watching videos online. These things have become too addictive to us, and we have spent so much time on such devices. Look back to 20 years ago, back when the time technologies were not very common compared to today. Eventually, we spent more time with each other; we hung out with friends. Technologies are advancing so rapidly that we have become addicted and have forgotten what surrounds us.…

Have you ever ate something without washing your hands or been next to someone who sneezed? If you have then you’ve been exposed to millions of germs. The world is full of microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses which can make people sick. Simple activities, like breathing, eating, and touching constantly expose microbes to the surrounding environment, and inevitably, our bodies. These microbes are a main factor for the cause of infections. The basic concept of washing hands is vital in the prevention of infection. A major challenge facing healthcare is controlling the incidence of infections among patients. “This is because hands may readily become contaminated with transient micro-organisms during the delivery of health care” (Patel, 2004, p. 32). Research suggests that good hygiene practices assist in the reduction of infections (Stout, Ritchie, & Macpherson, 2007).…

The impact of our smartphone obsession is making us lonely and alienating us from friends, family, and partners. In the beginning of the video “I Forgot My Phone”, there is a couple in bed “while [the man] pays no mind and checks his smartphone.” At the end of the video, as the couple gets back in bed, the man is still browsing the web on his phone. The woman, who is being ignored, inspires our pity, but the man is pathetic because he is “talking” to a lifeless device rather than having a conversation with the real person lying right beside him. If the man keeps doing this, the woman will not only leave “he and his phone” alone, but will also break up with the man since the more time you spends on your phone, the “easier” you will become alienated from others. Serena, one of my friends, had a similar experience of being isolated. She had more than a thousand friends and a hundred thousand followers on her Facebook, and needed to spend six hours a day on her phone to response to the comments on Facebook. Serena was using her phone during work, on the subway, and even in bed until she fell asleep since this was the only way to maintain the relationships with her Facebook friends and followers on the Internet. In the virtual world, she was a celebrity of sorts; however, no one would invite her to any activity because they thought she either already had too…
