Abstract
National Cash Register Country Club began as a benefit to employees of the NCR Co. located in Kettering, Ohio in 1954. In th1990’s, membership recognized a much needed boost while original members aged and decreased in numbers. In 1997, AT&T purchased the NCR Corporation and began funding an initiative to renovate supported by thorough research to optimize the NRC performance. The primary goal to attract new members led NCRCC to commission the McMahon Group to assist with the strategic planning of an aggressive attempt to revitalize the country club.
Responses
1.) According to the Business Research Process, first, we must recognize the dilemma, second step is to develop the question, thirdly a research method to the question is developed, and lastly we refine the research question accordingly.
In my opinion, the dilemma begins with a dwindling membership due to aging members and this develops the question “how to increase membership?” The research method entails finding a route to building membership and this is found in the accommodations made available to the members. By surveying what members thought of the facility’s performance, measurements can reveal areas for improvement.
The McMahon Group began with the dilemma of a decreasing membership and assessed the facilities’ future additions, activities, and alterations. A survey of satisfaction was gathered regarding the facility’s assessment.
All together, the idea remains the same, members’ opinions of the facility and accommodations would shed light onto necessary changes that need to happen.

2.) Given the research question, the measurement questions appeared to be appropriate for the method. Primarily members and non-members alike were given the opportunity to voice their thoughts regarding the country club. With the information, the strategic planning required attention to the services provided at the club and how to expand based on the feedback.

Data will exist of collecting all the contributing factors and variables of the research along with data needed to define the objective of the research. Once data is collected the analysis of data is performed. Researchers will analyzed all the data to interpret its findings. Once this is complete the researcher reports their findings to stakeholders. Stakeholders then make a decision based on research of their next move to cure the original problem that was given.     The first stage of the business research process is to discover the problem or dilemma, which in my case was how to implement a boot camp style training program that would be attractive to my students and newcomers in my area.     A main issue is addressing the concerns older and current members might have in regards to the proposed changes; older membership may be already currently satisfied with the operations and facilities of the country club and see no reason to implement changes. They may see change as a threat or an inconvenience to ending the old way of conducting business rather than as an opportunity to increase socializing and family oriented entertainment. This concern actually addressed a deeper issue the country club was facing: the potential deterioration of the golfing and dining services they were supposedly specialized in. This was pointed out through the findings of the McMahon's study where there were major concerns about the speed of service, the professionalism of the wait staff and the variety of menu items for their dining facility, the 37th hole. Since, the dining portion of the country club is currently half of their entertainment program, any flaws within the dining experience will be detrimental for the country club, in the perception of not only attracting new members, but also maintaining their current members. Management should look into the operations of the wait staff and seek out strategies to increase a favorable outlook from the members in this dimension. Some questions management should pose to evaluate the effectiveness of the dining facility should be: are the servers properly trained to handle customer service related issues?; are the dining halls up to health standards and do they make the members feel comfortable?; etc. Some of these basic lines of questioning can lead to more effective evaluation to ensure the dining experience of the club is up to par.
