The definition of expulsion is the action of depriving someone of membership in an organization. Being suspended is a huge punishment that totally effects my freshman year. Getting behind 1 week of homework is a huge setback which can lead to bad grades. Also why following others into trouble is that I can acquire a three day lockup for trespassing an area. This Literature Review was undertaken at the request of First Steps Housing Project Inc., Saint John, New Brunswick. It offers a comprehensive overview of the published literature on the topics of teen pregnancy, poverty, homelessness, effects of teen parenting and of poverty on child development, effects of childhood abuse and the societal and financial costs of “doing nothing”. Primary sources of literature were used throughout: primarily journal articles accessed on-line through the Harriet Irving Library (UNBF) and articles by experts in their field sourced on the internet. Every attempt has been made to properly reference the literature. However, the reader is advised that in many instances the writing of the original author/s best expressed the issue and therefore, the paragraphs were incorporated only with minor editing for readability. References are found at the end of the discussion for each topic area. Because each topic area stands alone, there is some repetition of the findings between topic areas.…

Every habit man has so far acquired has a long history behind it. Some habits are skin deep like polite manners; others are deep-seated like willing submission to conscience. However, these habits can at times lead us to be unintentional victims. “Habit rules the unreflecting herd,” as stated by William Wordsworth shows how one can effortlessly be subdued by prevailing groups. On the other hand, “Habit rules the unreflecting mind,” shows how someone can be subservient to ones own unconscious actions. Whether one succumbs to the habits of a herd or the mind, the end result is the victimization of oneself.…

Teen pregnancy is up partly because there is less of a stigma associated with teen pregnancy since there is more of a "cultural permission" to be a younger mother. The rise is also partly due to the portrayal of celebrity teens such as Jamie Lynn Spears in the media and other cultural shifts, giving teens the idea that "having a baby is the new handbag".…

The type of things we do these days just to be accepted are in my opinion absurd! We conceal too much. We lie too much. We fake too much. All of us typical teenagers seem to have an unwritten set of rules and ethics that rule our lives. One of them is to never say anything that may even be remotely offensive to anyone in your presence with the exception of profuse profanity. But the important thing is that you don’t need to do this. In a few years when you look back to reassess the decisions you made and the things you did, you will…

It was not until I started to read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens that I noticed my bad habit. I didn’t even consider it a habit until I read a part in the book and realized that it sounded so familiar. Like if they had used my own personal experience and wrote it down word by word. I never really put any thought to how a simple thing can cause such an effect to me, and not just in my school life, but also my personal life. It was that moment when I promised myself to change. Change into a better me because I am capable of better. I am capable of being a Prioritizer, instead of a Procrastinator. I am capable of living a healthy and balanced life. I am capable of achieving my lifetime goals and continuously live up to my full potential. But how can I make a change? Where do I even begin?…

James, my brother, a scrawny 16-year-old Caucasian male and a group of tall, buff African American guys come down the driveway.
