The day of the eighth grade promotion was filled with mixed emotions. I was very nervous but also excited to be leaving middle school. I was mostly nervous because I would have to walk up onto the stage in front of over a hundred people. I didn’t want to go because of how nervous I was. The school day was uneventful. My kids are the reason I procrastinate mostly and then other times it is because I am afraid I am going to fail at my assignments so I guess I try to put them off as long as I know I can. Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. For example, if we aren’t happy we will make sure others aren’t neither, we sometimes forget our values or the reason we do things. I am a hopeless procrastinator. I don’t start homework until its due, if at all. That used to be okay when I was in high school. I was able to work, go to school, participate in a plethora of extra-curricular activities, and date, all while maintaining an above 3.0 GPA. It's just a really bad habit that I've never actually taken the time to fix. When I was in high school I loved succeeding, but I never had to really work for it. It just came to me naturally. In the words of Stephen Covey, “Our behaviour is a function of our decision and not our conditions.” What the author means is that our behaviour and actions should be dictated by our own decisions and not by circumstances. The book also mentions the circle of concern and influence of individuals. A circle of concern for an individual includes a wide range of problems that a person might have whereas a circle of influence includes all the concerns that the individual has a degree of control over. Proactive people tend to focus on their circle of influence whereas reactive individuals tend to operate the other way round, limiting their scope of the circle of influence.
