Teenagers who become mothers have a very slim chance of having a good future. If a teenage girl gives birth while still in high school, she will most likely drop out to care of the baby. They also might not have the support of their family and therefore do not receive the knowledge of how to properly care for the baby. The mothers would be forced to rely on public assistance and advice on how to raise the child. However, if they do marry the father, they might end up divorced and have to raise their baby as a single parent.…

What are the health risks of teen pregnancy? This question is rarely explained or even thought about before pregnancies. Teenage girls who are pregnant especially if they don't have support from their parents are at risk of not getting proper prenatal care. Prenatal care is serious, especially in the first months of pregnancy. Prenatal care screens for medical problems in both the mother and baby, watches the baby's growth, and deals quickly with any complications that occur. Pregnant teens also have a higher risk of getting high blood pressure than older pregnant women. Equally…

Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine. You’re just going to have to change the rest of your life. Many people think teen pregnancy is highly unlikely, until, well, your stomach starts to keep growing outward. The MTV show, Teen Mom, takes us into the lives of four pregnant teenage women who face the challenges and the struggles of having a child early in life. Many people might oppose my view and say that this show is completely worthless and just shows couples who have no idea what they’re doing, but for me, I believe that the show is an entertaining yet positive influence that brings out a visual reality of teenage pregnancy, a pregnancy that can change the rest of your life.…

The show presents four Teenage girls, now eighteen, struggling with money, school, and dating as well as dealing with insecurities, their parents, the father of their children and for a couple and a mother and daughter, domestic violence. While society usually judges girls who get pregnant at any early age, this reality show has bought into terms the reflection of these four women and how they stand in or stand out of the teen pregnancy statistics. There has always been a high rate of teen pregnancies in the United States, and according to The Los Angeles Times, “Teen pregnancy rates in the United States have fallen in recent years, but the country still has a higher rate than any other developed country” (Roan). Even though the rates of teen pregnancy in the United States have fallen, they are still the highest in the world. Throughout the years, the United States has been experimenting and brainstorming new ideas to prevent teens from falling into peer pressure of having sex. tribulations these teens are facing. “The National Campaign says that fewer than half ever graduate from high school, and only 2% earn college degrees by age 30” (Docksai, 2010). Many of these teens are not thinking about the negative effects of being a mother between the ages of 15-20, and there are a bunch of them. Some of these outcomes include “school drop out, strain on public health and welfare systems, low-birth weight babies, increased medical costs, poverty, stunted workforce development, child abuse and neglect, and developmental delays and disabilities among infants and children” (Rosell, Scarborough, Lewis, 2010). It is said that “young girls who have children, often before completing their education, are less likely to marry and more likely to have additional children than those who delay parenting to a later age” (Sawhill, 2006). From seeing shows like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom on MTV, it is not hard to witness the truths of what some of these young women go though. There have been many of the teens on the show that have trouble with school or have had to drop out. A lot of them also face major money issues because they themselves cannot hold a job while raising their child. Teens are not thinking about the consequences they will encounter in the long run, and it is causing a huge dilemma. Although there are still troubles with teenage pregnancy, there are people out there who are putting forth effort to help the social problem. Countless organizations are beginning to show up and attempt in helping these teens. There is a group that started in Austin, Texas called The Tandem Teen Prenatal and Parenting Program. “Tandem has been effective in improving the health and well-being of teenage parents and their children and has more than halved the national subsequent pregnancy rate of 24% among its clients by more then half” (Rosell, Scarborough, Lewis, 2010). Tandem is trying to help in improving the lives of the teen parents who do not have much help…
