Adolescents today have behavioral patterns that are easily recognized anyone and can be found anywhere from tv shows to plays. In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, there are various examples how how teens behave. How the teens are acting in the play is similar to how they act in real life. This is shown through what Romeo is like with his family compare to what he is like with Juliet. Shakespeare shows that Romeo is more silly and careless with his cousin, but when it comes to Juliet he is more serious and passionate. An example is when Romeo got back from talking to Friar Laurence about the wedding and is now with his good friend and cousin. When Romeo is with them he is “now thou art sociable,” (2.4.92) and silly to the point of being offensive. And when he is with Juliet, like at the balcony scene, he is very passionate about his love for juliet and would rather “ let them find [him] there. / [and his] life were better ended by their hate / Than death prorogued, want of thy love” (2.2.85-87). One can see the big difference between the two behaviors. There could be many different reasons for why adolescents behave like that, but Tara Parker-Pope says in the article “Teenagers, Friends and Bad Decisions” that some parts of the brain associated with decision making can be affected by friends for teenagers. That is the main cause of the decision making the drowning of “any warning signals about risk” (Parker-Pope). Not having that affects the choices that are being made. This is probably what is going on with Romeo, since he doesn't consider the risks when it comes to being with his cousin
