The article,”Let Kids Run Wild Online,” the author, Danah Boyd discusses the issue with overprotective parents who constantly restrict their child’s freedom, especially now with technology being the new field for kids in today’s century. Parent’s are quite often viewed as overprotective and desperate to be involved in their child's lives, however, this isn’t necessarily bad. Contrary to Boyd’s argument, children should not be allowed to “run wild online,” for their are many consequences and negative outcomes to this matter. Firstly, children, who are main focus of this Body’s prompt, aren’t at the appropriate age to understand the the dangers of online activities, or many don’t take it serious or into consideration. Today the Internet has created some really bad issues. First of all, viruses are a problem for the web and its users because they cause damage to their computers. A virus is sent and received as an e-mail through the Internet, and if a computer receives a virus, it is expensive to fix. Therefore, people will have to buy a new mother board in order to get the computer to work again. Another bad thing that often occurs on the Internet is fraud. Frauds are most likely to happen online; therefore, people should avoid giving any personal information for example credit card numbers, debit card numbers, home addresses, and especially not social security numbers. When shoppers are buying merchandise through the Internet with a debit or a credit card, they may have a good chance of getting fraud. People don't only lose money, but they can also get their identity stolen. Pornography is also a negative side of the Internet because a kid can get to it just by clicking the mouse. Pornography pages do say "Adults Only"; however, this does not stop an underage children from looking through the pornography pages. The Internet is the easiest way for a child to get to pornography; in fact, pornography causes serious damages to a child. A child can become addicted to sex, distract him/her from his/her normal school activities, and can grow up with a perverted mind. Viruses, frauds, and pornography are a few examples…
“In 2001, the International Telecommunication Union calculated that, approximately 2.3 billion people had internet access at the end of that year. Since then, the percentage of people using the internet around the world has continued to grow” (Li 2). Censoring the internet has been a hot topic for quite a while now. Many people believe that censoring the web isn’t a good thing because of certain laws and rights we have as citizens. The internet has some cons but it also has many pros. The downside of the censorship is that the truth is blocked out and it violates our freedom of speech. On the other hand, censorship of the internet can reduce the numbers or even stop human trafficking, prevent identity theft, stop cyber bullying and so much…

Though a wonderful educational and social resource, the internet poses a multitude of dangers of its own. In this day and age most homes have the internet and even cafes and shops offer wifi services so people can access the internet from pretty much anywhere and with games consoles, mobile phones and a multitude of other devices having internet capabilities you do not need to own a computer or laptop now to be able to access the world wide web. Unfortunately peadophiles and other dangerous and unsavoury characters have cottoned on to the power of the internet and use it for their own vile ends. Having the internet in your home or in school is almost like opening the door to the world and if youre not careful, inviting anyone in. Most children do not see the possible dangers lurking on facebook and in online chatrooms and gamerooms and it is our job as adults and educators to help protect children online and help them to understand the threats that are there in cyberspace.…

Today the internet has completely changed the way people communicate with each other. It has changed the people conduct commerce, changed the way people research topics, the way people entertain and the way people break the law (Schmalleger, 2011, p. 70). Many of the crimes that are committed on the internet include: prostitution, drug sales, theft, fraud, conspiracy, bullying, and harassment. As the internet becoming more and more of a dominator factor in how society is driven so has these crimes. Kids are being bullied and harassed by their peers to the point that they are committing suicide. Stopping these acts are hard because it’s very difficult tracking everyone in America’s computer and it’s illegal without the correct warrant and process to monitor someone’s actions. The more that the internet becomes an everyday use for everyday America the more is going to be taken advantage of and break the law. I can see this being beneficial or detrimental to society as a whole. It can be beneficial by connecting the world but also detrimental by someone corrupting and hacking into the world. It’s going to be on the government and us to see how this outcome turns…
With the advancement of technology comes increased connectivity to a digital world where our children find themselves with limited guidance. This new realm is one that parents and educators have continually tried to navigate in an attempt to create a safer place for our children. Parents try to protect their children by imposing restrictions on Internet usage, while teachers struggle to teach Internet safety and digital citizenship in the classroom. Holding our youth accountable for their online behavior in a society that values Internet sensaltionalism has proven to be difficult, causing those in positions of authority to ask themselves where to draw the line. As the answer to this question changes with each new case, and more and more children…
