In this article there are several examples of how the use of the web, as well other types or media, such as IM, FB and Instagram have changed the way people thinks. One example is a person who says “Texting and IMing my friends gives me a constant feeling of comfort,” a University of Maryland student wrote after being asked to refrain from using electronic media for a day. “When I did not have those two luxuries, I felt quite alone and secluded from my life.” (Greenblatt, 2010)…
The Internet provides a growing platform for inaccurate, untrue and questionable information. On the upside, the miracle of Internet connectivity speeds peoples access to the information, knowledge and insights that contribute to humanities social and intellectual evolution. It also helps sweep aside information gatekeepers in positions of power whose “arrogant . . . unimaginative and shortsighted” approach to information has traditionally promoted their own interests and attitudes toward control (Lovett 16). Lovett states that “the right to free speech begins and ends with the First Amendment, but there is a vast middle where our freedom of speech is protected by our capacity to listen and accept that people disagree” (18). The First Amendment’s protections have always put a great deal of responsibility in the hands of the people and now they have more of that power…

He has a younger sister and older brother, his brother is away at college. Just prior to being laid off, he became involved with a young woman he claims is “the woman I’m going to marry.” He lives with his parents after being laid-off 6 months ago when he was living with friends. He was able to find a job where he works as a pizza delivery person. His mother was diagnosed with depression following the family’s move from Puerto Rico. Luis completed high school and one year of vocational training.…
When spectators look at society today, they see today’s youth, absorbed in their phones, laptops, and tablets. They see almost everyone getting more and more used to the idea of violence in society. And they see adults, searching for happiness. Ray Bradbury, who wrote the novel Fahrenheit 451 almost sixty years ago, was able to predict these happenings. But the one big prediction was the Internet. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury describes information everywhere; from walls to little earbuds he named Seashells. Most people in the novel blindly obeyed what they were told and believed all the information they were given. Today, some are seeing these same patterns in this world. Its main cause is the Internet.…

Jan Williams needs for mental health services became more apparent, she could no longer overlook the need for services. She looked through the yellow pages of the phone book at the various providers and found a company by the name of St. Mary’s Home Care Agency, Inc. that provided an array of services, one to include Outpatient Mental Health services. She called the number and requested help for her special needs, because she was hearing voices and her mood swings were horrible. To start the process the secretary forwarded her call to the Intake Specialist, who in turn asked her some personal questions for the referral process. Some of the answers included her name, date of birth, address, telephone number and an emergency contact number.…
With new generations, there tends to be changes in morals and values. Observing the youth of today, it seems that morals and values are being forgotten. Teens take pleasure in abusing…
4.) To what is known as our world, yet is influenced most of all by the cyber world. To be free and express what we think and believe it’s a delicate topic to talk about, since we don’t all think in the same way. We criticize and even offend our fellow man; this comes to affect them emotionally. On the internet, we are all free to do whatever we decide to do, not caring about our morals, there are occasions in which it leads to humiliate people in the cruelest ways, as symbols of entertainment. As in my opinion, the limit is the humiliation or culpability to innocents. There isn’t much control for these situations; just like it is said by Jim Gohem, “the internet is a loose cannon”.…
Of all the things high school students complain about, being sleep deprived and tired ranks first as most problematic. The issue isn’t that kids simply choose not to get enough sleep; it is that the majority genuinely cannot. Students are constantly being badgered by parents, doctors and school faculty to get at least eight hours of sleep, but with school starting as early as 7:20, that makes getting a decent amount of sleep an almost impossible task. Though there are numerous other reasons as to why students are lacking sleep, the start time of school is ultimately the main contributor and leads to many severely negative results. A policy causing high schools to start at 8:30 instead would greatly improve the number of better rested students.…
If a standardized test was in the way of receiving your diploma, do you think you would pass? Students today are given a huge amount of pressure to finish high school and to achieve an education. Some people believe academic achievement will improve by requiring high school students to pass a standardized test before being awarded a diploma. However, I disagree with this argument due to more pressure being put on students, the high number of drop outs already, and the increase of drugs that could be used by students. High school is just the beginning for students and giving them an enormous struggle to move up to even bigger struggles in college can decrease academic achievement, other than try to increase it.…
Individuals who use the Internet have to realize that they must be responsible and protect their own privacy. What goes up on the Internet will be around the world in just seconds. Galai just posted a photo of his face on the Internet not knowing about the consequences that picture would have. Singer asks himself, “New technology has made greater openness possible, but has this openness made us better off?” (Singer 463). Singer makes a good point about technology, because “new technology” has made the world improve by making it simple, but it has made it less private and dangerous because people do not understand their limits. Kadish says “The image had rippled outward in all directions, passing straight through national barriers” (Kadish…
To school, or not to school; that is the question. At least it was for me four months ago as I was looking for a leg up in this economy. Having a high school diploma and a can do attitude no longer opens doors in the working world. Now days, having at least your Associates degree and 2 yrs of experience are required before employers will even look at your resume. Since I already had the experience, school seemed like the best option to help me find an employment if the lay off rumors at my current job were true. Though it was the best option, my up coming wedding, thoughts of starting a family and finding the money were a few challenges that could keep me from completing my business administration program.…

“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses” (Thinkexist, 2010). The mass media, including news, movies, magazines, music, or other entertainment source has become a part of daily life for many people. As the quote mentions mass media and its power are capable of influencing people’s mind and behavior. Contents in the media introduced to young people make it difficult for them to distinguish between what is real and what is not, as a result stimulating confusion and blind imitation. The mass media plays an important role in the increase of violence, sexual activity, and risky behaviors among teenagers.…
