Use of Internet in Education
The fast and relatively low-cost access is one of the major benefits of Internet to people and students all over the world as getting an Internet connection is easy. Communication and information are the two most important uses of the Internet. Secondly, information can be updated or modified at any time and for any number of times, which helps in learning and better understanding.
Easy Contact
As mentioned above, communication is one of the biggest advantages of the Internet in education. Students can contact other students or their teachers via the E-mail if they have queries about any information. Sharing of information, discussions on a particular subject, etc. can be easily carried out using the Internet. At the same time, teachers can also contact the parents and guardians easily using Internet.
News
All the latest news are constantly updated on the Internet on different news sites. Students learning politics, can have an access to all the current affairs through the Internet in the school campus, at home, or at any other place. Historical accounts like speeches, biographies, etc. are also easily available on the Internet in detailed and accurate versions.
Advanced technologies have helped boost the ways of a life of a person. These days, young people are so fortunate to have so many sources of information accessible to them. Henceforth, people may resort to many ways to get the latest information. These sources are a variety of newspapers, television as well as the internet. Years ago, people invented paper and thus we were able to get news from the printed word. Television gives us the image. Now, we have the internet. One find it hard to decide which of these sources are preferable, however, as a teenager myself, I would most likely prefer the internet. The internet itself is one of the world’s finest inventions – we use it for all sorts of purposes. Therefore, I do believe that the internet is the most preferred choice among the youths of today.
Internet is especially popular amongst the young people. There are several reasons for this. Television and newspapers have a distinct disadvantages compared to the internet. That is-information is presented as news or programs through the newspapers and television while one can search for any kinds of information on the internet. Also, by the time the news is reported in the newspaper or television news channel, the news would have been old news. On the other hand, the internet offers up to date news and also chat rooms where people can give their opinions through ‘live feed’. Internet makes our life more convenient. One can download not just words or pictures, but also videos from the internet. It is easily accessible and retrieval of information is convenient – for instance, one can save soft copies of information in one’s disk.
The Internet offers a world of information in one place. It is a helpful tool in communicating and researching all different subjects. It is also a great way for students to use computers with proper supervision. Yet using the Internet in an educational system can be controversial. Some of the disadvantages include students giving out too much information about themselves, sites too commercialized with little educational value, and access to material that parents might not want their children exposed to. However, teachers and students have seen many benefits.
The Internet helps students develop their computer skills. It can also help students with their writing skills. In some forms, the Internet can help students with critical thinking skills. Students are faced with more information than they could ever use or need. This requires them to sort through the information and decide what is most important and relevant. With e-mail, students can have contact with other students around the world studying the same things they are.
The Internet can be a huge source for student trying to look up information for a college project or do homework. It also eliminates barriers for handicapped students who may have trouble getting to a library. It allows all students to have access to information whether or not their family has a set of encyclopedias.
The Internet allows students to read the latest news of a certain subject they are studying. If they are studying Indian politics they can do a news search and find out what is happening in the world of politics at that very moment. This can help them connect what they are learning to the real world. It can also keep them interested in a subject.
Students may have longer attention spans with technology than with other forms of traditional learning. Students will have to use the computer for research in college, in their jobs and their everyday lives. The Internet is a way of life for almost everyone now. Using it in a classroom is one of the best and safest ways to help them learn about this tool. The Internet is an added bonus for teachers looking for more information on subjects for giving lectures. It allows them to efficiently communicate with teachers through email.
The Internet is a powerful tool for assisting students and educators with conducting research. Going to a library and searching through a card catalog by hand can be laborious and inefficient compared to searching for the same information on a computer. Many college offer online library systems which allow students to find information on books using lab computers, or to access databases of scholarly articles that they can read online.
One of the most powerful benefits of the Internet in higher education is its role in e-Learning. E-Learning uses course materials that exist entirely on a computer or the Internet. Some schools offer courses that are entirely e-learning based, meaning all texts, assignments, quizzes and tests are accessible online and no face-to-face meetings are required. E-learning allows students with limited mobility or inflexible schedules to take courses and study at times that are convenient for them. E-learning also allows students to learn at different rates; one student could go through a certain course and finish it in half the time of another student. Many brick-and-mortar colleges and universities offer online courses or have courses with aspects of e-learning, such as online quizzes and exams.

Providing Internet in schools can be beneficial to students because it can provide students with greater learning capabilities. Before the Internet one would have to scour through many books just to find one small piece of information. With the internet this problem is resolved. One can easily search for the topic and get relevant statistics and extra, more updated, information that one cannot find in a book. The internet can provide this and expands learning outside of the classroom. Through the use of this amazing development we can all be more effective in our work. An example that may illustrate this is a student who needs to write a research paper for school and without the internet he would be all day in a library looking through irrelevant books, but with the internet this all changes. He may now find his information effectively and find other online resources that may assist him in his efforts. The Internet not only provides more information about what was covered in class but extra information and skills that may be applied outside of school. Print and television are two dominant media outlets for the news. Unlike radio, they are predominately visual, although television provides both visual and auditory information. Newspaper and television news organizations each have long-established traditions for reporting news in their respective media, which engenders distinct human behaviors that shape how people obtain news. For instance, television broadcasts present short video-based stories that are sequenced linearly and fit within a specified timeframe for on-air viewing. One’s access to and the sequence of such stories is controlled by the news organization. There are no archives of stories immediately available, unless the viewer records the broadcast. Conversely, newspapers primarily offer text content intended for in-depth reading whereby the reader selects a story of interest and reads it for however long he or she desires; thus, readers control the access to the information presented in the paper.
