Most courts have the same agenda only one focuses on state issues and one focuses on federal issues. The Texas court system when compared to the federal court system are almost paralleled.

The appeallant court has 3-13 justices including the chief justice. Each Court of Appeals presides over an assigned jurisdiction. Texas has fourteen Court of Appeals in which both civil and criminal appeals are heard. The 3rd court of Appeals in Texas is considered the is considered the highest in the state because aside from it's other duties, the 3rd COurt of Appeals overseas cases involving the state government. The highest state court for criminal appeals is the Court of Criminal Appeals; which is considered 1 of 2 Supreme Courts of Texas. Death penalty cases bypass the Court of Appeals and go straight to the Court of Criminal Appeals. All death penalty cases go up for appeal before the Court of Criminal Appeals. The Supreme Court of Texas is composed of one chief justice and eight justices. The Supreme Court of Texas primarily deals with cases of civil matters and juveniles. The Supreme Court of Texas also governs the rules for administration of the Texas judicial system. Federal court system has 3 levels. The US district courts was established by Congress to handle the civil and criminal cases involving the government. US district courts are the general trial courts for the federal government. Matters that would be seen in the US district court include disputes between states, issues with the Department of Education and the Department of Treasury. (Kadian-Baumeyer, 2013). The federal district courts also try cases involving bankrupcy, copywrite and patents. (undefined, undefined). The Federal District Court System is similar to the state district court system with the main exception being jurisdiction. US Circuit Court of Appeals. The US Circuit Court of Appeals is also much like the State Appeallant courts. The US Circuit Court of Appeals hears cases on appeal from the US District Courts. The US Circuit Court of Appeals is considered one of the most important courts. Since the US Circuit Court of Appeals determines if there was missuse of the law.
