Chapter 2 “The Spanish Invasion of Texas”
1. Arriving to Texas, Cabeza de Vaca and his companions experienced issues with the waters of the rough shores. A strong wave took them out of water, shocked almost everyone on the boat and shifted them around. This left them in need of food, water, and shelter. The strongest of them was sent out to observe the country in which they were. He was caught and returned by the Native Americans.
2. The Native Americans showed hospitality to the Spanish castaways. They brought them fish, roots and water daily and even for their voyage. They wept with them, and showed empathy after they ended back up on the same island. The Indians went as far as building them a hut in their dwelling and carrying them in the cold.
3. Cabeza de Vaca and the other Spaniards were surprised by how generous and hospitable the Natives had been to them. They were expecting to be sacrificed by the Natives’ idols.
Chapter 2 “Coronado’s Report to Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza sent from Cibola”
1. Coronada described the people in the kingdom of Cevola as intelligent but not intelligent enough due to the way their houses were built. They were average sized with good figures and wore their hair like the Mexicans. There were not men or women under the age of 15 or over the age of 60. There was no sight of fruit or even fruit trees. Cornada mentioned that corn was the primary source of food. They also had beans, along with their famous cakes, which he said to be the best in which he had ever eaten. The men were overly protective of their women, keeping them guarded and in long dresses. The people raised a ton of animals and turquoises.
