The Legendary Sam Houston Sam Houston will go down in Texas history for ever. He was a dad, a husband, a hero, a leader, and a great man. If there was something wrong, he just knew how to solve it, and he never lost hope for any mission. Houston never backed out! As a child, Sam Houston loved his family. He had five brothers, and three sisters. He was born on March 2,1793, and spent his early life living in Tennessee. On top of that his father was the mayor, but died later, leaving his mother a widow. After his father passed, Houston thought it was his job to follow in his father’s footsteps. His two brothers made him work with them as a storekeeper, but there was something wrong. Houston always yearned for adventure. He was taught to work for many jobs, but he was missing the adventure. He helped win our independence. He is most known for leading about 800 men in the battle of San Jacinto. Everyone loved Sam Houston as president, he was loyal, brave, and a great leader for the people. He has served two terms as president. His first term was October 22, 1836 to December 10 1838,and was re-elected in 1841. Houston joined the Congress Of The Republic through 1823-1825. During 1827 he was the governor of Tennessee. Years later, Sam Houston was named a senator of Texas February 21, 1849-1859. He now has a statue in Huntsville, Texas that is 67 feet tall, and is there for his “Tribute to Courage”. He was a leader back then, and is still our Texas hero. Sam Houston will forever be known as a Texas hero. Without him we wouldn't have our Texas independence. Our biggest leader of Texas, will go down in history. Known as a brave, loyal and fearless man. He stood up to the biggest army, knowing that he would lose some, but he fought through.
