Texting while driving is one of the roads most hazardous actions. Studies show that teenagers are four times as likely to be in car crashes due to texting and driving (texting while driving). People pay more to have a cell phone than the fine is for texting while driving. This is a serious matter that is very distracting, deadly, dangerous, and irresponsible (Eckenrod). Texting while driving is seventeen times more dangerous than any other type of distracted driving. Did you know that it is more deadly than driving under the influence of alcohol? Believe it or not, it is six times more dangerous than drunk driving (Texting and Driving Statistics). People often text and drive because we think we are invincible and no matter how dangerous things get, nothing bad will ever happen to us (Fumento). A large percentage of parents ‘teach’ their kids that it is okay to text and drive without noticing it. Roughly fifteen percent of teens say they feel it is okay to text and drive because either one or both of their parents text and drive and nothing bad ever happens to them. A car wreck normally happens within five seconds after the driver is distracted (46). The distraction level is the same as having four beers (or any alcohol related beverages) or driving blind for five seconds or more.
