One of the reasons why the government should introduce policies that prohibit texting while driving is that texting while driving driver takes drivers’ eyes on the road and focuses on the phone (Nemme et al 1259).
Further, for the driver to text, he uses the hands; therefore, he is not in control of the car. Taking off eyes on the road increases the chances of head-on collusion with the oncoming vehicles or hitting a pedestrian. The National Safety Board revealed that in the year 2015 more than 5870 people lost their lives while another 51500 suffered serious injuries which were caused by distraction while
driving. Another reason why laws that prohibit texting while driving should be introduced is that texting cause disturbance which lowers the concentration level. Most people believe that they are capable of multitasking, but they fail to understand the risk they take. Scientists argue that human brain can only focus on one thing at a time, unlike the computer which can perform multiple tasks at the same time. Both texting and driving require attention. However, since the brain cannot be able to balance the both an individual ends up driving carelessly which results in accidents. Many people fail to believe that it 's hard to multitask especially when dealing with activities that entail both hands and eyes. In cases of emergencies, the driver should pull over the car to make a call or text to help reduce the number of accidents that happens on the roads. Another reason why the texting while driving should be abolished is that accidents are expensive (Cook et al 550). First, accidents victims spend a lot of money on treatment while others injuries are permanent. In most cases, those who are permanently injured are forced to quit their work and if they were students learning because difficult. On the other hand, the owners of the wreckages suffer the loss of losing properties. Further, individuals who have been involved in accidents are traumatized. In most cases, they attend rehab centers for counseling to live normal lives. The drivers suffer guilt for failing to be cautious while driving. Further, texting while driving should be discouraged because it supports bad habits(Bayer et al 2085). In many cases, once a person starts texting it is difficult to tell when to end. The act of texting while driving separates an individual from the rest of the world and they stop caring what is around them. Instead of focusing on the road the driver only awaits eagerly for the other person to respond to the text. As a result, the driver may fail to follow roads signs ends up causing an accident. In conclusion, texting and driving are dangerous. Many people have lost their lives. The government should introduce and implement policies that prohibit the behavior. Texting distracts the mind of the driver which results in low concentration. Further, the act of texting while driving set off the eyes of the driver from the road which results in accidents.
