He constantly showed his love for writing as a child. His parents, James Hughes and Carrie Langston did not stay together for very long, for they separated shortly after birth. After living with his grandmother for most of his life, she passed with then cause him to move back with his mother. Langston attended high school in Ohio where his mother and step-father lived. At his high school, most kids came from Europe, he grew a good bond with them since they were way more respectful than the white americans.
