Elements, style and techniques of Hip-Hop originated with the Griots. Griots are West African Travers, singers, poets, historians, ambassadors, musicians, spokespeople etc. and storytellers that passed on history to a village of people. Oral traditions like these were so important in West Africa because it was the only form of recording or remembering Western African history. Today, hip hop music has grown into a culture that influences the way a person speaks, dress, think and act. Everyone is affected by certain events or individuals that greatly influenced their life. Many people have influenced me during the course of growing up but Hip-Hop personally has helped me through a lot of obstacles. I could identify myself with the oppression and rebellious lyrics which lies within itself. The beat, the rhythm, the style and the mastery of the flow became a way of living.
