The Ability To Read And Write
The ability to read and write is a very important skills that helps people expand their knowledge and communicate with people. Some people agree that the ability to read and write is more important today than it was in the past. Others disagree. In my view, I agree that the ability to read and write is more important today, for these two important reasons. First, the ability to read and write is very important to get a job. This is important to help people have a better life. For example, my friend, John did not study in the school and that made him cannot read and write. Two years ago, John applied for a job in different places, but he could not get one since all the job describtions were asking applicants to master reading and writing.
He felt so disappointed, but he kept searching for a job until he found one as a security in one of the banks. He got about seven dollars per hour, which is very little. That made him struggling in paying the rent of his apartment. However, if he studied in school and learned basic reading and writing, he could find a better job at the stores with a better salaly. Therefore, learning reading and writing helps people to afford a better life. Second, the ability to read and write helps people using new technology to communicate with each others. This is important to help people save their money. For instance, as I mentioned before, my friend, John cannot read and write. That made him unable to communicate with his son, who travelled to London, by emails. So, he cannot use the internt properly because he cannot read and understand what is on the screen. Furthermore, he cannot type a message by using a computer since he does not know how to write. That made him depend on calling his son by phone everyday, which is very expensive. It costed him about three hunderd dollars every month since calling abroad costs a lot of money. As a result, John could save that money if he could use computer to access the internet and type a message. Finally, reading and writing is more important today than it was in the past. Not only because jobs nowadays required workers to know how to read and write, also the use of new technology for communication requiers people to learn reading and writing. So, we should all know the benefits of reading and writing in our lives.
