The Act of Being Nice
THE ACT OF BEING NICE
People sometimes forget the simple fact that being nice to others can actually be good for them. My mother and some unique persons whom am going to mention later guided and chided me to being a very nice person. Sometimes it works and sometimes it didn 't. After all, we all get ill-tempered from time to time and take it out on those around us. We can see that being nice to others is good for them, but did you realize it 's in your best interest too?
Recognizing the personal benefits of being nice might motivate us to do it a little more often like when an opponent gives you a harsh tackle in a soccer game.
What does it mean to be nice? Niceness i would say is ill-defined. What exactly does it mean to be nice? is a question that should be in your mind at this point. Well, in my mind and perspective, it means being kind, generous, agreeable, accepting, pleasant, respectable, friendly, and forgiving as well as sensitive in dealing with others. It means going out of your way to treat others in a way that you wish or want to be treated. A famous poet (William Wordsworth) once wrote; the best part of a man 's life - his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.
Being nice when you 're given a very harsh tackle in a soccer game by an opponent means that instead of trying to react by maybe planning to play mind game, you passionately perhaps give your opponent the benefit of dought. Perhaps he or she wasn 't intending to be that harsh on you, but it happened because it’s a soccer game and of course it’s a body contact game. Why not just smile and let it go, a situation where of course he or she might have made effort to lift you up from the ground. It is good for you to be nice in these situations because there 're always rewards for such footballers, football lovers reading this manuscript knows exactly what i mean but for the benefit of those that have no idea about that, there 's an award known as fair play award, such

An act of kindness can develop values for both the person receiving the aid and the person offering the support as well as community development. In this summary key points are discussed on altruism. The summary stems from an act of kindness, which was conducted by the author as a student of Capstone Course in Psychology/Psy 490. I presented money to a person who needed money for his or her next meal, without expecting anything in return. A person does not realize the degree of emotions involved in experiencing need nor true concern until he or she begins to offer support with no desire of reward.…

Various research studies have been conducted on the multiple facets that lead readers to the conclusion that “nice guys finish first”. These studies focused on the effects of altruism, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and cooperation. However, some of the latest research within the realm of social psychology suggests a contradictory conclusion. Taking an innovative approach, these researchers examined what happens when participants engage in a not so cooperative and agreeable manner. This paper examines research from both sides of the spectrum, and if there really is a benefit for the display of a dominant and selfish behavior within the right context in our current world. For clarity sake, the terms dominant and agreeable can be thought of as the personality traits that describe the “bad boy” and the “good guy”.…

One important effect of virtue is illustrated through kindliness. Jesus was a great example of kindliness. He would hang out with the lowly and sick when nobody else would even if people criticized Him for it. Kindliness is normally the first effect of virtue developed because it has been engrained in our minds since our first years, yet it still can be a struggle to become kind. “Kindliness forbids you to be over-bearing towards your associates, and it forbids you to be grasping” (Seneca 4). Seneca is saying that kindliness is putting someone else’s interest in front of one’s own interest. Even though kindliness is a simple concept, it is often hard for people because selfishness is an epidemic in the world today. “In words and in deeds and in feelings it [Kindliness] shows itself gentle and courteous to all men.” Kindliness isn’t just being kind in actions or words, but also being calm and genuine in one’s thoughts. Even during difficult and enraging situations; kindliness…

Helping behavior that is motivated by underlying neuroticism is triggered by personal distress. Likewise, hostile aggression is also triggered by negative affect, frustration, and pain (Berkowitz, year). What determines if someone acts prosocially or aggressively when they experience negative affect? People take your kindness for granted. Some do not consider others feelings before they act upon anything they do. Other people are just disrespectful. We have to learn how to deal with it and never follow in the footsteps of disrespect. Kindness is important, always go that extra mile for someone just as much as you would want them to. You both might need each other one day and you will need that extra support or lift. You are always supposed to treat somebody the way you want to be treated. So remember, if you want respect you have to give respect. It is not an easy thing to come by these days but it is always worth a try to see if people will treat you how you are supposed to be treated, because it is one of the easiest things for people to talk about but the hardest thing for people to…

Now a days alot of people are really selfish and self-centered. Few people worry about others, and that is very depressing be\cause everyone should be concerned about other. In the book "To Kill a Mockingbird," when Jem and Scout were getting attacked and Boo wasn't selfish and he went to help them. Boo was concerned for them and for what was wrong with them so he went to protect Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. What Boo did was an act of kindness and unselfishness, that is what we need now a days. Another example is when my mom was sick and instead of letting her clean and struggle, I cleaned the whole house and dropped my little siblings off at daycare for her. I knew that by doing this I helped her rest her body, and she would be proud and…

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” (Leo F. Buscaglia) A simple act of kindness can ease one’s fears, touch one’s heart, and rekindle one’s faith in humanity. Kind behavior is among one of the most significant features a human can possess, however, as our lives become cluttered with all the burdens of our society, it becomes easy to lose track of what we live for. When my teacher presented the three acts of kindness project to us, I started to question whether I have been selfish or selfless in my everyday motives. I came to realize that performing random acts of kindness is something that needs to be incorporated more in my life on a regular basis. Therefore, I was eager to get started with my 3 acts.…

I came across a man, who was probably in his thirties, and his son: he was probably no older than six. I said “Hello sir how are you?” and he replied, “Good! Hope you are!” As I walked away I could hear his son asking, “Daddy, who is that?” and his reply was, “Just a nice man.” I’m not sure why but that made me feel pretty good inside. It made me realize that there are people who still enjoy being treated nice by complete strangers. My experiment was going really well, but of course not everything can be perfect. The next person I saw was a man that was probably in his mid-twenties in the golf section looking at clubs. I started by saying, “Hi, how are you doing” and he replied, “Do you work here?” I then said, “No sir, I don’t.” I was kind of speechless with his next response: “Then why are you talking to me?” he says. I apologized for bothering him and walked away. I enjoyed this experiment but I’m a little disappointed that it ended the way it did. In conclusion however, I learned a lot out of the research I did and I’m happy with the results: for the most…

By performing a kind act, one makes the world a slightly more pleasant place to live. It’s like that series of commercials where one person sees another person doing something inspired or heroic, and then at a later time makes a point of paying it forward. This happens again and again. It is the Golden Rule. I’ll be the first to admit that putting this principle into everyday practice is tough, when you live in this fast-paced society. It was only yesterday, that I didn’t yield to my fellow pedestrians during evening rush hour when I was stuck in traffic en route to pick up my grandson from school. Later, I felt guilty and ashamed but it was too late.…

reallyThis is a story on an act of kindness I did for this girl I didnt know to well. One day as I was walking home from my old school I saw this girl, she looked like a complete nerd someone I wouldn't normally talk to. She was walking home looking really sad, kind of like she had no one to talk to. I walked over to her and introduced myself and she also told me who she was; she said her name is Abby. She was carrying books in her hands and it looked heavy I asked her if I could help. She nodded and told me I was more then welcome. I walked her home that day. I asked her if she would like to hang out sometime to call me and gave her my number, a few weeks later we were best friends.…
