In the article “What is the Age of Responsibility” by Alan Greenblatt, the author expresses that at 18, teens are considered adults, and have the ability to vote and join the army(1). However, when it comes to drinking or renting a care, teenagers are too irresponsible. We are allowing young adults to make the choice of fighting for our country, knowing they are risking their lives. How are they responsible enough for that, but not responsible enough to rent a simple car? It is clearly understood that teens learn to be more responsible when the author says “ They note that binge drinking on campus is rampant… if students were given the right to drink at an earlier age, they might handle it more responsibly” (3). The law on the drinking age being 21 is very strict. Many believe if we lower the drinking age, death rates for teen drivers may go up. But if we slowly lead them into it at a young age, they would be able to be more responsible while handling it. Because of the many restrictions teens have, when they get their hands on those things they’re restricted to such as drinking, they abuse it.
