He was responsible for Birkenau`s “Gypsy camp(“Josef Mengele”).” Despite popular belief, Mengele was not the highest -ranking physician in the camp. This role actually belongs to SS captain Dr. Eduard Wirths, who was responsible for any medical matters for all of Auschwitz(“Josef Mengele”). Not long after his arrival, Mengele was promoted to Chief Camp Physician of Auschwitz 11(due to the “Gypsy camp” being liquidated), in the November of 1943, but he still had to answer to Wirths(“Josef Mengele”). They were psychologically normal. Mengele had a wife and child that he came home to every night. He'd come home, kiss his wife and hug his child, and it would be like he didn't just torture and brutally murder innocent people in cold blood.
