The Apparition By Gustav Moreau
I will be discussing a painting by Gustav Moreau titled The Apparition. This painting was painted with watercolors in the year 1876. It can be found at the Musée du Louvre in Paris, France. This two dimensional piece of traditional art gives us insight into how truly talented Moreau was; this painting seems much too detail oriented to be anything like most watercolor paintings seen today. Watercolor paintings typically consist of building up many layers with colors due to the pigments being so transparent. This can be used to the advantage of the artist; one can achieve many different textures and patterns depending on the amount of water used. For a loose and fluid brushstroke, either fill the brush up with water and a small amount of paint, or add more water to the paper. With a more controlled look (like the above painting), simply add less water and more paint. It would appear in Moreau’s art that he used less water to achieve such detail. …show more content…
I shall first begin to describe the main focal point of the painting-the apparition itself, and the jeweled woman. Below the floating head is a dark crimson stain that appears to be blood from the head. This blood creates constrast within the painting, it's darkness stands out against the light tones on the floor. The use of blood gives the feeling of tragedy and guilt judged by the saddened look on the woman’s face and the look of despair in the apparition. The floating apparition’s head indicates he is that of a saint or angel, depicted by the golden halo circling his head. This golden halo is a very intense hue, creating emphasis on his head which has lines flowing outward. Another thing to note is the slight presnse of unity; the blood is a simlar color to the robes of the person behind the

When people look at pieces of art for the office, they should pick pieces that will not only be appreciated by the people that work there but also the clients that visit the areas these are being put on display. They are the impressionism and the post-impressionism eras. These periods have been touched by a variety of artists that use new techniques in order to paint what they were interested in painting.…

The artist I had chosen for my PowerPoint presentation was Georgia O’Keeffe. The first example of her work is Easter Sunrise was made in 1953 and is an oil on canvas painting. Easter Sunrise depicts a mountain side and shining from the corner of the mountain is a brilliant white cross. As far as the technical excellence of this painting, the colors are varying degrees of browns, gold and white. Georgia O’Keeffe uses form really well.…

When taking a trip to the Norton Museum of Art I chose a one dimensioned painting called Adam that was located on the first floor. The artist is Nicholas Carone and was painted in 1956. To the left of the painting, Adam, was another painting named Personage which was painted by Robert Mothewell in 1943. Personage is an abstract oil painting on canvas with multiple different colors. To the right of Adam was a sculpture called Sea Quarry and was created by Theodore Roszak. The sculpture was not an obvious choice that it was a sea animal at first. I had to stand there for a minute and really look at the sculpture to being to see what it was really intended for the sculpture to be. Returning to my original choice, Adam by Nicholas Carone, it is also an oil painting done on canvas. Carone first started with a plane black picture and continued to manipulate it with white paint color and other lines using different thick and thin brushes. The picture was made to represent and recreate light and shadow but is opaque. It uses several different elements of art including color, value, line, shape, and space. “Adam”s composition is curved lines and is known as an Abstract Expressionism type of art.…

The piece of artwork that struck me the most was Thomas Cole's the voyage of man. The art gallery only had one painting from a series of four so I looked up the other two and really took in the flow of the four paintings together. I found it very interesting to see how the artist portrayed the different stages of life. He shows childhood as bright and easy by by representing it with a gently flowing river and sunny sky, which I find are accurate depictions of the early stages of life. The character of childhood is portrayed by a man in a boat who is simply along for the ride. The second painting portrays youth. This painting has much of the same scene as childhood but now the figure in the boat grabs firmly to the tiller symbolizing the start…

A two-dimensional Mexican artwork I’ve chosen is by a well-known Mexican artist named Frida Kahlo. The painting is called The Two Fridas, which was created in 1939. In this painting by Frida Kahlo it represents her dual heritage of her father and mother by having two of her, one wearing a European-style dress while the other is wearing more of a Mexican-style. Besides the history and meaning of the painting there are features that are displayed in this painting like the type of medium it is. The medium of this painting is oil on a canvas that allows us to see the formed and rich brush strokes that are filled with heavy textured details.…

In the history of art, we have seen many paintings which share the same content, but were done by different artists in different movements. Each of the artists has a different style, different ways to observe what they see to translate into a painting. An example is the “The Regatta” by Theo van Rysselberghe in 1892, and the “Slave Ship” by Joseph Mallord William Turner in 1840.…

It gives one an idea that this guardian angel is there to protect the boy and gives him his first view of the beautiful world. I think Mr. Cole was trying to start this painting off by symbolizing the child coming out of a dark cave and into a beautiful bright world, much like when a child is born. The details of the painting are very precise and beautiful. Mr. Cole did a great job using balance, shape and light in this piece. If you look at the painting like your reading a book, the color goes from dark to bright and the way he uses his colors to portray this transition is beautiful.…

After I had entered the room, I realized what it was about Impressionistic art that I loved so much. The amazing color. The nonconformity. The raw emotion. What a surreal feeling it was to stand there before the works of greats—the works of masters. Such a feeling I had only felt a few times beforehand, yet none had ever dealt with historical masterpieces—masterpieces that would alter the foundation of art and visual media until the end of time.…

The composition seems to implicate that the victim’s misfortune was in some way influenced by the woman in the window, whether it is the suggestion that she killed, entranced, or entranced the horse to kick, the connotation is obvious. The connection also implies a sense of interchangeability between the woman and the horse as suggested by Dale Hoak which aids in his thesis that perhaps this was an illustration about Baldung’s sexual transgression that “Like the Hexenbilder generally, the Bewitched Groom confirms Baldung's obsession with the sexual manifestations of sorcery.” However, while this suggests Baldung’s exploration of the innate human nature of sexual fantasy through the depiction of witchcraft, the iconology in the image also stands to suggest other characteristics or aspects of human…
