Officer Barnes was one of the proclaimed
witnesses of the crash. He was flying a helicopter patrol at the time of the crash and happened to be flying over when it happened. He says that he was playing some with some of his equipment when it was recorded that Ethan was traveling at a rate of 66.7 feet per second (200 feet in 3 seconds) which would calculate too about 45 miles per hour and supports the claim that Ethan was speeding. On the other hand, Chris was in his front yard recording a video of his neighbor and happened to notice that he caught the crash on film in the background. Chris says that he counted Ethan’s 24 inch tires rotate 101 times in the 15 second clip. His measurements would calculate to 42.3 feet per second which reduces to about 29 miles per hour and goes against the argument and charges that Ethan was speeding. The question is which one is correct?
I supports Chris’ claim that Ethan wasn’t speeding because Officer Barnes was high above Ethan and couldn’t have possibly seen his tires. He also was just messing around with some technology when he made his discovery, no one knows how accurate this equipment could actually be. I also support Chris because he could repeat his data to be completely accurate whereas Barnes ony had the one time. Chris slowed down the video so he would literally count each rotation that Ethan’s tire made. Therefore I believe that Ethan is not actually guilty and should not be charged with speeding. But he should be much more careful while it’s icy outside and clean out the floor of his car so he can avoid crashes like this one again.
