So many parents that live in the United States are informed every single day that their children are indentified in having EBD and ADHD. There are many controversial topics on the subject of ADHD and EBD that include teachers, parents, educational psychologist, administrators and doctors that this is taking into consideration whether or not these children with learning disabilities should be given medication or do these individuals have the right to demand that the child take these medications? These two disorders and the option to medicate are important to the educators because these people have a intellectual effect on how the children are taught and the environment that connects within the classroom. ADHD and EBD are a huge problem in a way that is struggling for them to pay attention in class and other materials that they learn. These disorders are described as learning disorders and need to be confronted and fixed so that these children can gain the best benefits in knowledge for their education. There are two ways that these learning disorders can be treated with therapy and correcting the medication. Everything in life has benefits but it also has its weaknesses. It seems that medication is a simple answer to treat ADHD and EBD. Today in our society, it has acquired a belief in using chemicals to fix everyone’s problems not taking into account of the side effects it causes. Taking medicine as a method for correcting the problems will let the children fell more at ease with having these learning disabilities will make them pay attention. It will enhance their skills in memory and help them in gaining knowledge and succeed in tasks in a way that is calming for them. Another reason why it’s a bad idea is because the drugs can make you dependant on them and you can also get addicted on it, and if you are on the drugs for a long time it can increase how the drug effects you. Personally, I’ve been on some of the medications that fix these disabilities, I do not think the methods they use for medication is the right way to alter the way people should focus or act. It was a year ago when the doctor thought I had ADHD and he put me on Ritalin. I had trouble focusing and doing tasks that as I was taking this medication I had severe side effects from it. I was hospitalized twice for attempting to take my life. When they took me off the medicine, I felt normal again and was socializing with family and friends but my grades were going down. Due to the obstacles in my way, I was gleaming being an average child off the medicine and I was acting better but suffering emotionally inside. In my opinion, I thought my battles in school was not my disability but felt that everything else was a barrier in my life was. I feel strongly that medication should be given based upon certain situations. The clip that I observed on the students who were classified in having these disabilities made the right choice that they felt was best for their children. The number one role in these disorders is depression. Many people have thought about if medication was the right thing for their child. We all know medicine for ADHD and EBD has its drawbacks and benefits. Every parent needs to be open minded and do research on all the different ways when consi dering which kind of treatment they are giving to their children with ADHD and EBD. It’s vital that the parents are taught and educated on the different ways and that the teachers gain knowledge and the proper information on the students problems. My personal opinion on how these children are being medicated for ADHD and EBD is wrong in so many ways. I feel sad for these children who have these disabilities and are struggling in their lives. I think that having the children be forced to take medication is heartbreaking, who wants to see their child suffer on medicine that only makes them worse? These children go through enough dealing with other students who are fine. No parent should see their child broken down and in distress. It is so important for the child to tell their parents how they feel because if they don’t speak up they will be going on a downward spiral. For the parents, they need to put their full attention on their children because it’s vital that they act quickly and calmly if their child is suffering emotionally and physically. Some possible alternate treatments would be a dietary approach. This approach shows the food that changes someone’s behavior with ADHD. It includes any fake colorings (such as green, red or yellow), chocolate, wheat, milk, eggs, and foods that have salicylates which are grapes, oranges, peppers, tomatoes and plums. The most well known diet for children who have ADHD is the Feingold diet. This diet requires a careful eye on a child’s eating habits. Parents think that this diet is a huge achievement. Researchers say that sugar plays no role in a child that has ADHD. Another way of treating ADHD is neurofeedback
which uses electronic devices to assist the children in regulating their own brain wave activity. They look at images, which are on a computer that mirrors the brain wave activity of the child. There are some alternate treatments to help a child with EBD manage their disorder. There is behavioral techniques, teaching self-control, help with social skills instruction, life-space interview and wraparound services. Children who have EBD and ADHD suffer everyday to fit in with other children who are normal. It’s very difficult for the parents who have children with these disorders to see their child go through such a hard time. The parents need to stay strong and be there for their child in every way that they can. Children who have these disorders are so brave in dealing with their issues. They should live a beautiful, normal life and grow up to be an inspiration to other children who have the same disorder.
