The Art Of Racing In The Rain Analysis
Garth Stein in the novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, tests how Denny’s, Eve’s husband and Maxwell, Denny’s father-in-laws, relationship guides their behavior towards each other, their fears through Eve’s illness and their personal love for her, causes them both to do things that held serious consequences. Stein supports his claims by contrasting their differences in handling the trials. The author’s purpose is to point out the dissimilarity in the way people handle sicknesses ending in death and the crisis the families sometimes go through afterward. The author writes in an emotional yet humorous tone for those who love dogs but for those who will enjoy a story of hope and love.
According to Enzo, Denny has the heart of a racer. Denny is driven by his passion to be a racecar driver, and not a good driver, but the best. Denny’s behavior is exhibited in the way he handles each circumstance that manifests itself in his life. From Eve’s terminal illness, to almost losing his daughter Zoe, Denny tries his best to navigate each curve in life just as if he was behind the steering wheel of a racecar. Unlike Maxwell who’s behavior is filled

For example, Denny’s love for Eve is as a husband for his wife, a lifetime partner and mother of his child. The love he has for Eve guides his decisions in helping her to make the best of the rest of her life. Denny’s love is unselfish and void of his own desires. Denny wants her to be at peace in her last days. Allowing Eve to enjoy the time she has left with those she loves. Denny has the heart of true husband. Where as, Maxwell’s love for Eve is different from Denny’s love. Max’s love is of a father for his daughter. This love is a special love that only they can share. Max wants what is best for his girl. Eve’s desires become the focus of Maxwell’s attention. The mutual love they shared for Eve, even though very different, centered on giving Eve the best at the end of her

After reading the two short stories, Love in L.A by Dagoberto Gilb and What We Talk about When We Talk about Love by Raymond Carver, I have realized that a common feeling like ‘love’ can be painted into so many different pictures. Each one of these short stories is written by two different authors and sees ‘love’ at different angles. The character Jake in Love in L.A. has this vision of love that is more of a mockery. Then, Terri’s ex-husband in What We talk about When We Talk about Love has so much passion, but the kind of passion that can be interoperated as obsession. The lies and misconceptions of ‘love’ that Jake and Terri’s ex-husband display reveal that ‘love’ does not exist in a world filled with nothing but cruelty and evil actions.…

Author Garth Stein has written multiple popular books but when word of his now New York Times bestseller, The Art of Racing in the Rain, got out, it was thought that he would not be able to pull off a novel from his perspective of choice: a common household pet. But he has done the impossible by taking aspects from his life such as his love of animals, his family and hometown, as well as car racing, then applied it to the fast-paced life of Enzo, a caring, an oddly human-like dog.…

In A.B Yehoshua’s novel,The Lover, a chain of first person monologues are described. These monologues are set up in a mixture of flashbacks and conflicts that the characters undergo. This unique structure gives the novel a special meaning towards its description of the characters, and the story itself. For example, the character Asya is described to be a very hardworking independent woman. But, she has a odd relationship with her husband, Adam, who is a diligent man in charge of a successful mechanics garage. Throughout the story Adam and Asya never, hug never kiss, and they barley speak to one another. Meaning that this structure lets The Lover symbolize the loneliness and insufficient amount of recognition towards each of the characters. For instance, Daffi, the daughter of Asya and Adam, is a teenage girl in lack of attention. So, because of her parents barely paying any type of attention to her, she spends her time wandering the streets most of the day trying to keep herself productive by either stalking people or just walking around. After awhile, she then begins to connect with her fathers worker, Na’im, who also is alone and has no attention from anyone, and in the end they both fall in love. This basically shows how this novel details the meaning of loneliness and the importance of love.…

Throughout the book Enzo always puts his family (Denny, Eve, and Zoe) first. He dedicates his life to protecting them and always tries his best to warn the family about things such as Eve’s cancer. He shows compassion towards the family even when they forget about him and leave him at their house for multiple days alone with no food or water. He forgives the family for all of their mistakes and always looks out for their best interests. Enzo also always wants the best for the family even if it means he gets left behind and he always puts himself second. When Denny gets opportunities to race but has to leave Enzo behind…

The novel The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is a novel about a dog named Enzo, who desperately wants to become a human. This is a novel about family, loyalty, and love, and reveals what it means to be human through the point of view of a dog. The plot is about the sudden loss of Denny's (Enzo's owner) wife, Eve, which pushes Denny’s in-laws to sue for the custody of Zoё, Denny's child. Stein’s use of dual timelines characterizes the inner human of Enzo’s consciousness; Enzo uses gorgeous metaphors to compare the conflicts in racing to the complications of life, to aspects of life such as injustice, death and loss, and the general conflicts that every human will eventually have to absolve in their life. An important…

Christopher believes that “4 red cars in a row made it a Good Day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day” (47). He also uses the car rule to decide his schedule for his day--whether he would go and talk to people to do an investigation or whether or not he would eat his lunch, which seems to have no logic for most other people. “The next day I saw 4 yellow cars in a row on the way to school, which made it a Black Day, so I didn’t eat anything at lunch and I sat in the corner of the room all day and read my A-level maths course book” (53). He decided his entire life by the meaningless rules he made by himself, which is based on the colors he likes -- red -- and the color he hates -- yellow or brown. The idea seems very naive and childish but Christopher treated them as codes for life and followed them, which demonstrates the very mechanical nature of his…

    Pieces of April

Love is the emotional investment that pushes people to their limits. This is demonstrated in the film “Pieces of April”, when our protagonist April is pushed to do something for the sake of love, even though she dreaded every moment of it. She tries to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for her and her family with hopes to be reunited after years of negligence. Although she tries to conceal her exhilaration it is clear and obvious that she is eager for her family’s arrival. Her attempt at cooking a meal for her family and going through so much difficulty is not so literal. It represents the notion of how love can push people into doing impetuous things. The deficient love of a girl for her family can make her do so much. The relationship between April and her mother, Joy, resemble the relationship of Tiffany Chan and her mother from the short story "Of Kin and Kind". Both the mother and daughter relationship is very rigid and tense. Tiffany claims that her and her mother may be of the same blood but they are anything but alike, by declaring "We were kin, but less than kind". This quote can also reflect April’s view on her and her mother’s relationship. We all believe that our similarities brings us close and our difference separates us without knowing that the only thing still holding our ties is the love we have for each other. That love is what makes us forget the conflicts and disagreements we may have and reminds us that no matter how different we are, we learn to accept and love each other. Bobby, April’s boyfriend, also illustrates how love can give people unbelievable strength and make them overlook the concept of possible. He claims his mother lifted the car to save his life after they had been in an accident. He carries his belief and shows what a person can accomplish if they carry love within themselves, “When you have love you do things you never thought you could. She had a moment of unbelievable strength because she had love”. The power…

Through the article, I assume the contrast between passionate and compassionate love. The author quotes Mark and Walsh as saying that early love is based on when you love the way the other person makes you feel, while mature love depends on when you love the way the other person is. I obviously do not see what is different, and it gives me such an aftereffect to think whether I am still immature. Also, one word that comes up most often about love is chemistry, which conjures…
