The answer to the first question about feeling the motion of the Earth lies in Newton’s first law. The reason we cannot feel the motion of the Earth is inertia and frames of reference. Inertia is an objects tendency to stay in its current state while in a frame of reference only the motion between objects is meaningful. With the absence of external clues a person moving and sitting still feel the same stimuli. Velocity is the speed and direction an object is travelling and it had to accelerate to get to that speed. Acceleration the rate that a change is velocity occurs, slowing down or speeding up. Everything on Earth is traveling the same speed as the Earth, so people are only able to feel the changes in velocity on Earth. For example, a helicopter is also rotating with the Earth at 1,000 mph, so it must accelerate to travel in any direction. A thought experiment also helps in debunking why objects don’t go farther when thrown in opposite directions. For instance a baseball pitcher throws the ball at 50 mph east, the direction the Earth rotates. The ball has been accelerated to 1,050 mph when combined with the Earth’s rotation. If he throws it west, the ball has been accelerated to 950 mph. The same change in velocity occurred, and because a person’s frame of reference is the Earth, they see it as the same
