The author wanted to convey the message that politics are extremely complicated and hard to understand. I agree that politics, especially in America, are complicated and sometimes that can be overbearing on both politicians and the people. We need to focus less on each individual party’s agenda and cooperate to form a united government. Stalemates between parties are not only bad for the political process, but also for the people that rely on that process.
This book was a mixture of many things, including a mixture of fascinating and dull. There are occasions where you are pulled in and it absorbs you while there are also instances where the reading feels slow. The slow intervals can make you want to put the book down and never pick it back up, but it is a very beneficial read. It helps you to understand many things about America as a whole, and not just in politics. It gives you a glimpse into the world that Obama lived in as a child, and the one he lives in now with his family. We learn about how his heritage and his name affected his life and his political
