Proving Jesus’ Divinity - A Tale of Disbelievers
The gospel of John outlines the details and events that are present in the life of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist, being a disciple, explains Jesus’ mission on earth; and purpose to save people from damnation as well as help them to achieve fulfillment in their lives. Even though John’s gospel uses many terms to describe Jesus and his works, the terms darkness, light, and messiah stand out the most through his entire gospel with respect to Jesus’ divinity and ultimate purpose.

Jesus’s role on earth is similar to the sun’s byproducts for people, because they both provide light , warmth, and a source of personal growth. At the sametime darkness, as described by John, in both the metaphor and in reality does not offer any color, is cold, and cannot support any metaphysical or personal growth.
Contrasting darkness and light is similar to contrasting death and life. John’s view of darkness is associated with the evil and ignorance of people. The failure of acceptance of God, leads to a decreasing quality of life and limits full realization of people’s abilities and talents.
Jesus states: ”I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.” John describes the actual frustration that he has with the fact that people have strayed from the path that brings actual happiness and prosperity. Jesus states that because he represents the light, he can provide guidance to people, and show them how to stay away from the darkness. His mission, as determined by John, is to save people from their sins, wrong deeds, and provide help for people who accept him as their God and
