There is only 11% of the inmates that is allocated in private prisons so approximatively 22,000 people. The public prisons try to send more prisoners into the private ones because the federal prisons are sometimes overcrowded. Their goal is to manage the private prisons to make profits out of them. The first prison in America was created in 1983. One of the main reasons why they decided to start doing private facilities is because of the overpopulation of the public ones. Private prisons could apparently handle bigger prisons with less workers than public prisons would use. After inventing private facilities, they agreed to make an Immigration Detention Center in 1987. With the years passing by in private prisons, they witnessed a lot of bad crimes in those secluded jailhouse such as stabbing, people getting away and even worst, killings. After all of the violence, they decided to get maximum protection for the inmates so there would be less crimes in it. In 2000, the private prisons stock decreased because of the low number of inmates in it so the companies started to drop economically. Later in 2004, people complained about the misconduct of the staff against the inmates, they started to be more violent with them. 3 years later, the Immigrant Detention Center began to grow and expand because of the number of people who got detained. Half of the immigrants who got held up were kids who didn’t get to explore maximum freedom in it but one of the accord was that they weren’t obligated to wear the prison uniforms. Some immigrants detained died probably because of violence in the prisons. A lot of inspection were made but no one was found guilty of anything. In Kentucky, a lot of females were abused in sexual way by the prison guards so the governor asked to release all the females who got allegedly abused.
