The Blind Side, Directed By John Lee Hancock
Confucius once said, “it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” This quote is stating if an individual is slower than others it should not matter because he/she is working hard to become successful even if it takes him/her longer than others. The movie The Blind Side directed by John Lee Hancock is an inspiration for individuals who are struggling in poverty but can change their lives around with the right support and resources.
To begin, this movie is a based on a true story. It is about an African American who is a part of the white society. homeless, and was not the best in school, but when he met the Tuohy’s who accepted him as their own, his life changed for the better. Michael made a huge impact on their lives as well. He struggled at first and had a difficult time with school but he never gave up. By the end of the movie, Michael is a football player with good grades going to a university.
The authors’ purpose of this movie was to put an African American who went through many obstacles. His purpose was to show the audience how Michael started off with not having support, a family, or a home, but ended up with having much more. Michael grew up with a rough childhood but he focused on being better for himself by being a work ethic and having dedication to become successful. He was first seen as a teenager who was not smart in school. To add on, teachers also doubted him because in the movie it shows a scenario where he took an exam and did not write anything on the paper. The teachers assumed that he did not understand the exam but the reason he did not write anything on the paper was because he did not have a pencil to write with. Michael was not given resources or supplies to help him become successful in school.
Even though this movie is focusing on poverty, it seems like the audience of this movie is for individuals who want to see a story that is based on some true events.
The audience may have seen the trailer of this movie and at the beginning or end of the trailer it states, “based on a true story.” This makes the audience believe that anything is possible if an individual has a good mind set and is willing to put in the work. It is inspiring adults and teenagers to go out and buy the movie or go to the movie theatres to watch it. The movie, The Blind Side can also be used for inspiration and educational purposes. There are some scenarios in the movie that are for the audience to feel sorrow for Michael because of his long journey without a home, clothes, and food. Some individuals might have cried at some parts of the movie. For example, in the scenario where Michael opened the room to his new bedroom. Michael said, “it’s mine?” and his mom said, “yes sir,” and he said, “never had one before,” his mom said, “a room to yourself?” and he said, “a bed.” There was also another scenario where Michael went to a Volleyball game and when the game finished, he was picking up the leftover food. This scenario would make individuals feel some sort of emotion because they are witnessing how Michael gets his food. To add on, Michael also received support from people who were not his family but they cared for him like they were. For example, his adopted parents, coaches, and teachers would encourage him in school. Michael’s teachers knew he had potential to do well in school but he did not have the resources to get there, so his adopted parents hired a tutor for him.
