Boeing is one of the largest and one of the most well-know companies for their aerospace developments in the commercial airplane and integrated defense systems markets. At this time the company currently lost its number one position in the commercial airplane market to Airbus, whom has over 50% market share in units sold and in dollar value of sales received. Boeing’s company is composed 54% from their commercial segment and 46% from their defense system segment. Earlier this year (2003), Boeing announced plans to design and sell a new, “super-efficient” jet dubbed the 7E7. Otherwise called the “Dreamliner” because of its new and innovative technology to be brought into the commercial aerospace market at this time. Boeing has two models for the “Dreamliner,” the 7E7 Baseline and the 7E7 Stretch, a slightly bigger version of the 7E7 Baseline. Both models are said to produce significant cost savings for companies by decreasing the jets fuel consumption by 20% and decreasing the operating expenses by 10%. Based on the seat configurations the Baseline model can seat between 200-300+ passengers and the Stretch can seat between 250-350+ passengers. The introduction of the 7E7 would make it possible for these jets to not only fulfill the capacities of the largest passengers planes is use, but it would have the capabilities to make short, domestic flights and even long, international flights. At the time there are no other planes, same in size, that can compare to the benefits this new product can bring to the commercial airplane market. In the recent years aircraft demand has been impacted negatively due to some critical events across the globe. Some of these events include the United States going to war in Iraq, global terrorist attacks, and the spike of the deadly illness SARS.
