The Boy In The Striped Pajamas,written by John Boyne is a historical fiction novel set in the 1940’s ,during the time of Hitler’s regime.The book is about a young boy named Bruno who moves from his luxurious life in Berlin,Germany to horror-filled Poland because of his father’s job.Even though Bruno is not allowed to go near the people in the striped pajamas,he goes to the fence and sees a boy on the other side of it.He befriends the boy,named Shmuel and brings him food every day and talks to him.The main traits that Bruno displays are naivety,trust and curiosity and these traits decide the course of the whole book. Curiosity is one of Bruno’s main character traits and one that gets him in trouble sometimes.He only went to the fence because of his curiosity.He only met Shmuel because he was curious about “Out-With”.He only went over the fence because of curiosity.There is an expression “Curosity killed the cat” but in this case it killed a child.It is so sad that the combination of Bruno’s trust,curosity and naivety lead to his death at the end of the book.
He is so sheltered that he doesn't know about the tragedy happening right outside his window. He also calls Hilter “The Fury” a mishearing of “The Fuhrer” which another name for Hilter.At one point in the book he attempts a Nazi salute which he thinks is a way to greet someone.At one point he says to Shmuel that he is jealous of Shmuel having all his frineds in the concentration camp.This trait ultimately leads to his unspoken but obvious
