Because their horns are believed to be a miracle medicine that has no proven by scientist basis. According to a study from scientists, rhino horns are just made from keratin which is similar to human hair and fingernails, the ingredient of a horn core is calcium and melanin makes the horns harder and stronger under breakdown from the sun’s UV rays (Ohio University, 2006). I agree with Braam that people are greedier at present. They are living contemporary lives with high living standards, good incomes, and more leisure time. That is leading them to find and discover exotic things. Over the past few decades, rhino horns have become a luxury item and also currency for political transactions. Professional businessmen, celebrities and government officials, upper- middle class citizens in Vietnam are the main group of rhino horn consumers. They purchase rhino horns for the sole purpose of maintaining good relationships as “life gifts” as well as reaffirming their social status (TRAFFIC, 2013). Generally, when we are greedier; we will lose more. Although rhino horns have no medical value, people continue to believe that it will cure cancer and continue to kill rhinos. The rangers should be equipped with advanced skills to take the fight to the poachers. Public information for educating people is that rhinos have no nutritional or medicinal value. Poisoning rhino horns to reduce their future supply to the market. Legalizing trade in rhino horns will help to reduce the cost of horns and bring back profit to the South African economy. People maintain safe sport hunting as eco – tourism which rhino are available for sustainable use by means of trophy hunting or rhino horns are not commercially produced. And, governments should have strict laws to punish poachers, and also some policies to invest the campaigns for protecting rhinos.
