The Bridge Between Society and Individuals------Sociological Imagination
Before I write this report, let’s review a story. Do you remember Gump’s chocolates box? “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” In my opinion, we are all like the chocolates in the box. We see that everyone in the world is different but we don’t know the total differences between each other. However, from a macro perspective, everybody has the same parts which belong with all human beings.
Now Mills teaches us “Ordinary people understand and effort to complete the matter is always defined by the track of his personal life.” And “Individuals only through the exposure being in the era in which to understand his own experience and grasp their own destiny, he had become aware of the life chances of all individuals in their environment and clear his own life chances.” Mills builds a bridge to connect the society (macro) and individuals (micro) which is named sociological imagination.
I want to say from my birth. I am the only one child of my parents, so my parents put their all time and money on me for education, of course I receive their all love. Maybe in the other’s eyes, I am lucky and should be very happy, but sometimes I feel very tired, lonely and stressful. Children are the hopes of the families, logically, I am the all hope of my big family. So whatever I do, I always have the responsibility to work hard not only for myself but also for my big family. The other big problem for me is I am a selfish person, because in the family, all the family members love me and they will meet my all reasonable and unreasonable requirements, totally think in my way. Also, many friends of mine are like me who am self-centered and selfish. Now I leave my hometown (Hangzhou) and live in Shanghai, after graduating I will go abroad or work in Shanghai, I can’t live with my parents. I understand I have the responsibility to support my parents when they become old, but it also a problem that one child to support two old persons, maybe
