The Case Of Hae Min Lee's Case
What would you do if you were accused of something you did not actually do? How would you feel if you had to serve a life sentence in prison for a crime you didn’t commit? Adnan Syed is an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Facility, serving a life sentence for killing his former girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. While there is some evidence saying Adnan is guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee, there is even more evidence saying he didn’t. Adnan Syed is innocent and had nothing to do with the murder of Hae Min Lee because Adnan and Hae were still friends when she was murdered and Adnan had an alibi at the time that Hae was supposed to be murdered at.

When Adnan was asked where he was at the time of the Murder he said the he was probably at track practice or at the library because he had time in between the end of school and track practice (Koenig 18 and 19). Later, after Adnan was arrested, when Serial Podcast reporter, Sarah Koenig, was looking into the murder, she found a letter from a girl named, Asia McClain. The letter said, “Dear Adnon, (I hope I spelled it right) I'm not sure if you remember talking to me at the library on January 13, but I remembered chatting with you (Koenig 29).” Asia also talks about how she was waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up that day, and that she and Adnan were talking until about 3:40pm. Sarah Koenig says, “Quote, ‘We left around 2:40pm,’ unquote. Remember, Hae is supposed to be dead by 2:36 (Koenig 29).” This letter from Asia helps me believe that Adnan was at the library with Asia at the time that Hae was supposed to be dead. In Asia’s letter she talks about how she was waiting for her boyfriend that day, and she remembered only because he was very late to pick her up and it was …show more content…
Jay, Adnan Syed’s friend, testified during trial and said that Adnan called him right after he killed Hae to tell him to pick Adnan up. In an interview with the police, Jay said this, “Detective: And why is that? Jay: Because he said he was going to kill Hae. Detective: And the reason you have the car and the cell phone was why? Jay: To pick him up from wherever he was going to do this at (Koenig 10).” Jay also told the detective this, “Detective: Why don't you go ahead and tell us what you know about the death of Hae Lee. Jay: OK. I'd left out, went shopping with a friend of mine, an ex-friend of mine, Adnan. We had had a conversation. During the conversation he stated that he was going to kill that ***, referring to Hae Lee. I took it with context. It didn't stand out in my head any (Koenig 9).” These quotes tell me that Jay knew what happened to Hae and he can confirm that Adnan did kill her that day. These pieces of evidence help me understand that Adnan Syed had a part in Hae Min Lee’s

Serial, is a Podcast produced by an investigative journalist and a former reporter for the Baltimore Sun named Sarah Koenig. Serial is a spinoff produced by the WBEZ 91.5 Chicago radio station and This American life. This specific podcast addresses the 1999 case of Adnan Syed vs The State of Maryland. In this case, Adnan is being accused for the murder of his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee. More than fifteen years later, this case once again sparked controversy when aired in 2014 through the podcast. In Serial, reporter Sarah Koenig intended to seek justice for Adnan by portraying him as innocent, which listeners can tell through the three rhetorical appeals; ethos, pathos and logos which she presents throughout the case along with interviews, evidence and personal statements.…

The next day she goes to the cops and tells them that Jay told her Adnan killed Hae. On February 28, Jay gets interviewed by detectives, he tells them everything he knows; how Adnan showed him the body and then leads them to Hae’s car, this proves that Jay was at the scene. But Jay's story changes, the next time he is asked by the detectives he admits to assisting Adnan with burying the body, he later tells Jenn that he needs to clean up the shovels and that he needs her help. These inconsistencies make it hard to believe that he is a solid witness, he doesn't change his story once but multiple times. He tells the Cops that he is sure the murder happened at the Best Buy parking lot and that Adnan later called him from a payphone there, he draws detectives a map of the location of the payphone but when you look through the blueprints and ask the primary and recent owners, no one has ever seen a payphone outside at the parking lot. Before we go any further we need to know the time of the murder, the state's timeline is from 2:15-3:30 pm, this is when Adnan went from Woodlawn High school to Best Buy and between all this still had time to kill Hae, the problem with this is that it's nearly impossible. Investigators Sarah and Dana tested the State's timeline, they accounted for the traffic of getting out of…

Jay says in two different investigations that the call came in around 3:45 but according to the records they came in at 2:36. The records also show that Jay was not at Jenn’s house from 12pm to 3:40pm (like he and Jenn said) that leaves the following; Jay was in the area of Hae’s last-known location at the time that she went missing, and Jay has no alibi for where he was during that time period. Thus, Jay can’t be at Jenn’s house, as he and Jenn told the police over and over. The records show the phone near Woodlawn the entire time of Hae’s (probable) abduction and(or) murder. The same phone was being used to call “Jenn house” at the same time. Adnan has no reason to call Jenn. Did Jay call Jenn?…

The four Sydney police officers that initially responded to the report of the stabbing, Constables Leo Mroz, Howard Dean, Richard Walsh and Martin MacDonald - did not do their job correctly. They did not cordon off the crime scene; search the area or question witnesses. None of the four officers dispatched to the scene even remained there to protect the area after Seale had been taken to the hospital. Also the police detective John Macintyre very quickly decided that Marshall had stabbed Seale in the course of an argument, even though there was no evidence to support such a conclusion. Maclntyre discounted Marshall 's version of events partly because he considered Marshall a troublemaker and partly because he shared a general sense in Sydney 's White community at the time that Indians were not "worth" as much as Whites. Detective Macintyre’s investigation seemed designed to seek out only evidence to support his theory about the killing and to discount all evidence that challenged it.…

The woman, Yu, had been found on a lava embankment; Dan had reported that he found her there, presumably after hanging laundry. She had many injuries; a later autopsy determined she died of two massive wounds caused by a tire iron. She also had scrapes from the lava rocks. In 2012, a new case prosecutor reviewed the case-there was additional blood evidence found, evidently linking DeJarnette to his wife’s death. He was a prime suspect in the first place; this just locked it in.…

On February 25, 2000 Adnan Syed’s world came crumbling down around him. Adnan was convicted to life plus thirty years for the murder of his high school ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Although Adnan was convicted, he is not guilty. The prosecution's case was shaky and was built around one witnesses constantly changing testimony. The witness was Jay Wilds, the neighbourhood drug dealer and a former schoolmate of Adnan’s. As well as the prosecution's main witness being unreliable, the cell phone tower data that they used to convict Adnan says on the cover sheet that the cell phone data from incoming calls can't be used to reliably and precisely locate a cell phone. Lastly, the autopsy report of Hae Min Lee showed fixed frontal lividity, the phenomenon…

    Hae Min Lee Case Analysis

Jay has been inconsistent with each story he has ever told. In each interview, he would change parts of the story he had previously shared. It is baffling to me that Adnan’s friend, Jay, a small town drug dealer, manages to convince the jury that he is a believable source in the murder case. It is likely that the reason the jurors had so much faith in Jay was because he was the only evidence the jury had to lean on. Other than Adnan’s handprint in Lee’s car, it would be ludicrous to say that Adnan murdered Hae Min Lee. During the first interview, Jay claimed that he heard Adnan say he wants to kill Hae Min Lee, then the next day he was shown Lee’s body and Jay helped Adnan get rid of it. In the next interview, Jay insists that Adnan mentioned a few weeks before, he would kill Hae Min Lee. Jay’s timeline, inconsistent as it is, shows that Hae Min Lee was strangled in the parking lot of Best Buy before 2:36 P.M. However, multiple eyewitnesses claimed to have seen Lee at school around that same time period of the same day. Jay also…

Although the jury finds Han not guilty of pre-meditated murder, the details of the story show his crime to be in fact pre-meditated murder. All evidence shows that, he has a deceptive and manipulative character. He has the opportunity to commit murder without blame, and because he has a reason. Upon hearing the interview of character witnesses and analyzing Hans 's thoughts and feelings during the course of the murder, the reader finds sufficient evidence of the several reasons Han intentionally killed his wife during the course of the act. There are three major reasons as to why Han is guilty. The first being a mistake like this cannot happen to an experienced performer, secondly Han 's manipulative character, and lastly Han 's motives for killing his wife.…
