The Cask Of The Amontillado And Night Of The Hunter
Montresor and Harry Powell are both two different people in different stories but have something in common which is greed and manipulation.Montresor was a main character in the short story “The Cask Of The Amontillado” and he wanted revenge so he went in the catacombs with his friend Fortunato to kill him.While in the movie The Night Of The Hunter (1955) directed by Charles Laughton the character Harry Powell gets out of jail and married Willa Harper to find $10,000 hidden somewhere inside there house.Later Harry Powell kills his wife in order to search for the $10,000.Both “The Cask Of The Amontillado” and Night Of The Hunter show a very suspenseful and dark mood and both have a theme that can relate to each other. “The Cask Of The Amontillado” and Night Of The Hunter explore the theme which is be careful who you trust.For instance in “The Cask Of The Amontillado” Fortunato trusted Montresor about the amontillado.So they went to the catacombs to get the amontillado but later Fortunato realizes that there was no amontillado so

techniques to reveal the theme.For instance in the middle of the movie there is a scene where Harry Powell kills Willa Harper and The lighting on Harry Powell is very dim and the framing is in a lowered position to make him look evil.But throughout the movie everyone thinks he is amazing person and a good guy but he actually wasn’t. Both “The Cask Of The Amontillado” and Night Of The Hunter create a very dark and suspenseful mood in order to address the theme of be careful who you trust.However,they differ in the way they convey this mood and theme by the literary techniques they use.From reading and viewing these two pieces I was able to figure out that there plots and storyline is different but there message is very similar.
