A few days after Sand has attempted to escape the barrier, he finds new friendship in the only thing that seems to be alive in the castle which just so happens to be the dead princess he had seen days earlier. When Sand uses his blacksmithing skills to repair things for use, he sees how the thorns seem to lower and his relationship with the princess grows. Everything in the castle is seeming to come back to life with plants sprouting and food rotting; yet the thorns remain impenetrable.
Where I have concluded in this book, people have become aware of the people trapped in the castle and Princess Perrotte’s past catches up to her. Perrotte’s stepmother learns of her stepdaughters awakening and orders her to be killed once again but her army soon learns that the thorns will not move. Now the two teens face a decision which is to lower the thorns by mending things, and most likely be executed by her stepmother, or be caged forever.
I believe that Sand’s choices in the beginning of Perrotte’s awaken days altercated the amount of time they had to mend things. They spent the first two days arguing and awkwardly apologizing.
