The Celebrity Influence on Teens and Society
The other day as I turned on my TV, I saw a hit story where a celebrity was going to jail for drinking and driving. As I sat and watched this happen, I thought about all the teens that looked up to this celebrity as a role model and how society feels about this person making such a bad mistake. Watching your role model go to jail is not the best thing, because you try to follow in their footsteps. However, it could cause you to ruin your life. Later that day, I went to the store and saw a magazine while waiting in line. It had had a celebrity on it and this celebrity was drunk and walking out of a bar smoking a cigarette. As I read through the magazine, I started to think about how bad of an influence this person was on teens and society all together. According to my research on both sides, I have come to the conclusion that celebrity influence is negative on teenagers and society. Celebrities can be a very good influence on teens and society. A lot of celebrities help to enhance teens and societies understanding of curriculum subjects, like math or science. Celebrities also help to inform teens and society about drugs, sex, diseases, pregnancy, alcohol and smoking, so they know what these things can do to you and how they can affect your life in a negative way (Manohar). They are also very good role models for showing teens that donating to people in need and that are adopting children that are in need of a home is a good thing to do to help them out. Some celebrities also are a good role models for teens and society on how they portray themselves in public. Celebrities can be good influences for helping society and giving to people that are in need, for example when tornadoes or hurricanes hit celebrities try to go to these places and help clean up or help give out food and drinks (Ava).
