John is a strong man who is a physician who is trying to make the narrator get healthier, not knowing that by trying to make her feel better, he is making her to feels worst, because she is not allowed to do anything but to stay inside the mansion.
He is a sympathetic guy; his character is different from the narrator he takes too much care for her not allowing the narrator to be herself. There is a famous quote by Abraham Lincoln that is “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power”, John has all the power in his hand to do anything he wants to do with the narrator, he even don't want any body to visit her until she gets better. The only person who is she allowed to talk and see is john
sister.
I personally will act the same way the narrator acts if I were in her position. The narrator feels that by hiding her personal journal is the only way she will feel better; because if john discovers that all she does is writing and trying to discover what does the wallpaper means, he would get really mad at her. John does not know that by acting the way he does she is only feeling worst.
The wallpaper represents the narrator trying to escape from her husband. As the more she stares at the wallpaper, the more she is trying to figure her life and after knowing what the wallpaper meant she begins to change her mind and talk about how she hates john since he tries to control her in everything she do. The narrator would love to be her self, and go out, and take care of her baby, however she is scare from doing all she loves to do.
