Abstract
Tess of D’Ubervilles isThomas Hardy’s famous work, Gone with the Wind also is Margaret Mitchell successful novel, both two novels have an impact on literature study.Tess and Scarlett are the heroines of Tess of D’Urbervilles and Gone with the Wind. From the angle of character, many scholars have their own views on them.
This paper will analyze them from another perspective , these tow novels describe tow person in different country and historical background, but their attitude to marriage; family and ethic have a in common except their own personality. Therefore, this thesis will analyze these two heroines’ attitude to marriage, family and ethic from the angle of id, ego and superego, therefore draw a conclusion that character determines destiny.

1.1.1The introduction of Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy(2 June 1840一l1 January 1928) was born in the parish of Stinsford to the east of Dorchester in Dorset, England.
He trained as an architect in Dorchester before moving to London in 1862, but he gave up architecture in 1874. At the age of 22 ,He moved to London and started to write poems, which idealized the rural life.
Hardy’s career as writer spanned over fifty years. Encouraged by Emma Lavonia Gifford,his wife,he started to consider literature as his “true vocation.”
Hardy fell ill with pleurisy in December 1927 and died in January 1928.His heart was buried at Stinsford with Emma, And his ashes in Poets’ Comer.
