They did not arrive to North America until chapter three in the book because they had gotten lost. When they arrived in North America, they did not see the rest of their crew, thus for, most of the crewmen decided to leave the boat and continue the expedition by foot. As the crew was walking, they scouted a group of Indians who they decided to waylay. Once they had ambushed the Indians, they ordered them to take the crew to their village. Once they were there, they took all the maize they had. Shortly after that, the crew identified that these indians had gold. Then the Crew asked where they had found the gold and the Indians told them that they had found it in a colony far away. The Europeans believed the Indians, therefore the crew decided to leave and search for the gold. It was their mistake to believe the Indians who had led them into a fake search for gold. The crew lost their ships and were stranded on a land they knew nothing
