lives closely looking for signs of grace or of being damned by exhibiting that she indeed could have killed him but didn't therefore showing Mr.Parris a sign of having grace. Mr.Parris responded thankfully to her that she did not kill him therefore leading up to believe that it was an act of grace. This gives an example of how foolish people were and how they easily could have worked the puritan beliefs in order to obtain power. Miller openly illustrates the religious theme of are certain most of humanity is damned for all eternity to show how it makes the village react. "No man may longer doubt the powers of the dark are gathered in monstrous attack upon this village-Hale. Reverend Hale highly advocates that the village of Salem is being cursed by the devil himself and which cannot be refused because of how clear it is to the people. This indicates that the town of Salem is already on the process of being completely damned as a result of the amount of people getting accused of being witches. This undoubtedly displays how dreadful the people were due to the fact that they were being accused and that the whole village could potentially be damned which could also potentially lead to unwise actions upon the village itself. Miller illustrates philosophical theme of examined inner lives looking for signs of grace or of being damned to show how it changed John Proctor. "He wake me every night his eyes were like coals and his fingers claw my neck and I sign, I sign"-Mary Warren. Mary suggests that John Proctor is the devil and he made her work for him. This illustrates how John Proctor felt after being accused because he was so angry and completely lost it because what she said was a lie, which lead people to think John Proctor had power to control people. It lead John Proctor to not lie and later on death. This clearly illustrates how any sign in the Puritan era could have had you accused of being the devil or a witch because of high suspicion and fear.
These two major themes played a very important part within the Puritan era.
The Philosophical theme of examined inner lives closely looking for signs of grace or of being damned and Religious theme of are certain most of humanity would be damned for all eternity by giving people options to go to as a way of thinking which could either be in fear or grace. Puritans relied on these themes to live their daily lives but when they are manipulated it shows what happened in the crucible. This made Puritans make rash decisions because of fear of being damned by others so it made them accuse others. Puritan beliefs were allowed to be manipulated which lead to many
tragedies
.This suggests that if the Puritan beliefs are manipulated the people are also manipulated because they all believed in the same thing which could lead to other problems in the future.
