The Crusades: Contributions To The People Of Europe

The Crusades were important to the people of Europe for several reasons. The most important reason is that they were an attempt to defend against Muslim conquests of Christian lands. The Crusades also provided many opportunities to the people of Europe that ultimately contributed to many improvements of their society. I personally think that the Crusades brought about accomplishments that could not have been achieved otherwise such as effects it produced economically, the political effects, and the impact it had on European culture. The effort of raising armies and providing supplies for participants really stimulated the economy. As a result, trade increased significantly during this time. The Crusades also increased the wealth of the church
The crusaders also gained the knowledge of science and medicine while participating in the Crusades, which had a huge impact that wouldn’t have been achieved otherwise. According to John Grey, “the knowledge of the science and learning of the East gained by the crusaders through their expeditions, greatly stimulated the Latin intellect, and helped to awaken in Western Europe that mental activity which resulted finally in the great intellectual outburst known as the Revival of Learning and the period of the Renaissance”(1).
