This brilliant book, as well as disturbing, demonstrates us the teenage’s autism by showing his most intense behaviors such as ‘’screaming and punching after a simple touch on the shoulder’’.
The readers certainly conclude that the character cannot stand people to touch him, which is why he behaves. Christopher Boone has some ununderstandable and excessive fixations that often leads people to think of him as a ‘’freak’’. He is hating the yellow and brown colors and can never touch or eat anything that has yellow or brown on it. Yellow and brown are for him the two colors of misfortune and that is the reason why he wouldn’t eat or talk if he sees three yellow cars in a row. The teenage has difficulty to comprehend the facial expressions of others, such as smiling or crying, furthermore their feelings. In addition, he doesn’t understand when someone is being sarcastic or is saying a metaphor. His inability to empathize is one of the most important features of autism-related disorders. Chatting with people is for him pointless if he doesn’t have anything specific to ask;For him, it is a lost of time. But furthermore, chatting for him is not something he can actually do. Christopher feels frightened to talk to people he doesn’t know or isn’t close to,including his neighbors.To be clear, he only talks to his father and to his teacher. He feels intensely insecure to face a person alone, which is the reason why he always has a swiss army knife in his
pocket. However, Christopher Boone may be having behavioral problems and may be autistic, he is incredibly brilliant. He has an incredible memory and has the capacity to see things very detailed. His intelligence is mostly related with math and science and all his world is connected to these two important subjects. Counting, calculating and solving problems are the things that calm him when he feels stressed, lost, panicked or in crisis. He is the only student part of the highest math class of the school and never miss any problems. He often relates himself to Sherlock Holmes because he is a problem solver, a detective extraordinary clever who knows everything about math and sciences, and who observes every little details.
In conclusion, Christopher Boone is having some mental and behavioral problems, which is his autism, but yet his intelligence in math and science made him understand and figure out many mysteries that happened in his life, including the ‘’Curious incident of the dog at nighttime’’.
