“The Danger of a Single Story” was about a nigerian woman who grew up reading children's books that all had the same outline of the characters, White with blonde hair and blue eyes that played in the snow and drank ginger beer; she had a single story of characters in books. When she started writing that is how all of her characters appeared because that's all she's known in literature. The Problem with a single story is There is diversity and it makes children vulnerable to having only one perception of a type of people or a concept. Children are easily influenced an example is when children start to say things they hear adults say so if they are being fed one story over and over they will believe that that's the onl and best story their is and will begin
The story that goes along with homeless people most of the time is that they're druggies or alcoholics , are quick tempered or mean, and are lazy and try to make a living off other people. In some cases this can be true but it can also be very wrong. Some homeless people can be veterans that suffer from PTSD or have just went through a disaster in their life such as a house burning down, losing a job , or a spouse leaving the other. The single story affects homeless people because they can be judged and discriminated against. Even the woman giving the talk came across a similar situation , in Nigeria there are very poor people that middle class people can take care of ; As her family is taking care of a poor young boy she doesn't think his family in capable of doing anything great in life but her family takes a visit to the boys family and the impoverished family makes beautiful baskets to sell at a market. So she was fed a single story that all impoverished Nigerians couldn't do anything great in their life but she found out that that wasn't true when she saw them making the beautiful
