Of “The Dangerous Game”
And “the Lottery”

Two Face Death In “the most dangerous game”, Sanger Rainsford is faced with General Zaroff. Zaroll has hunted all his like but is getting bored and needs a new animal to hunt. He wants an animal that has courage, is cunning and can reason, making the game fore exciting. Humans to General Zaroff are just another animal. This hunt will make the greatest hunt of his life. Rainsford is putting the situation where he is fighting for his life. In “the lottery”, Tessis Hutchinson is faces with a stoning from her village. The town holds a lottery to stone one person every year. A lot of work goes into this lottery and everyone has to partake in it. Once Tessis has the feeling it will be her she tries to save herself for the stoning. Rainsford is a well- educated man from New Your City. He falls off a yacht and ends up on this island with General Saroff. The author shares this bit of information to show education and money but not necessarily strategy and life saving nature skills. We don’t learn more of his capabilities later in the story. The author does not go into great detail with this character. He doesn’t talk about his past, his knowledge; he does talk a lot about his actions in staying alive. You can understand the characters motivation the second her learns that he is the one that is about it be hunted. He was shocked and confused, but quickly moved on. I loved how he only talked a minute about trying to convince the General that his is a crazy idea. Rainsford figured out that it would be a lost cause and he should work on a battle plan. He would be a flat character with only one outstanding trait, just as Mrs. Hutchinson is also a flat character. Hutchinson is a wife and mother. She was busy doing dishes when she remembered what day it was. She arrived at the lottery only to have her own name drawn out of the lottery box. We learn that she has other children that are older and

He is competitive when he jumped into the sea so General Zaroff thought he was dead. Then Rainsford swam to the shore, went back to the house, and hid in General Zaroff’s room so he could make sure that he won. He was not going to let General Zaroff win. “Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated… then he leaped far out into the sea. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bedroom was standing there. “Rainsford!” screamed the general. “How in Gods name did you get here?” “Swam,” said Rainsford...The general sucked in his breath and smiled. “I congratulate you,” he said. “You have won the game” (Connell 80). This part shows that Rainsford is competitive because he jumped out into the sea to make it seem like he was dead. Then he went back to the house of the man that was trying to kill him, just to tell the man that he had won the game. Sanger Rainsford is intelligent, brave, and competitive in the story “The Most Dangerous Game” because he is outsmarting one of the best hunters around. Rainsford is also beating General Zaroff at his own game,…

Rainsford will not take over General Zaroff’s game of hunting other humans. For instance, when General Zaroff asks Rainsford to go hunting, he says, “Thank you, I’m a hunter, not a murderer.”(25) Rainsford classifies himself as someone who hunts animals, but not humans. He disapproves of General Zaroff’s game and most likely still does. In addition, while Rainsford is being hunted, he thinks, “The Cossack was the cat; he was the mouse. Then it was that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror.”(31) Rainsford is truly afraid at this point just like other humans are when they are being hunted. He has had the horrifying experience and probably doesn’t want anyone to feel this fear. As a result, Rainsford is a gentleman and animal…

When Rainsford first gets to Zaroff’s mansion and Ivan points the gun at Rainsford, when Zaroff hunts Rainsford, and for all the other men that Zaroff had hunted on his island. The significance of conflict is that Rainsford has no other choice, other than being whipped by the brutal force of Ivan, than to be hunted by the sick minded General Zaroff. Whose love for hunting is so extreme he hunts men. Another element I will add to Cornell’s work is key, suspense. Suspense grabs viewer’s attention, and at times makes the audience predictable, tense, and even excited. Suspense will be added to “The Most Dangerous Game” starting when Rainsford goes to Zaroff’s mansion. In the story Rainsford refuses to go into Zaroff’s library, but in the motion picture he will. This scene will be terrifying and full of suspense as Rainsford is lured in and is forced to see all the severed human heads that were once Zaroff’s hunt. This key element will also happen when Rainsford is sent out to hide from Zaroff. Towards the end of the hunt, when Rainsford last trap gets set off and…

In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell tells the tale of an exceptionally skilled hunter named Rainsford. Rainsford falls off his yacht and ends up on the shores of Ship Trap Island, home to the evil General Zaroff and finds himself in a game of man vs. man against a person who finds thrill in hunting and killing human beings. However, despite the fact that Rainsford is forced to face a surplus of life threatening obstacles he does not back down. Throughout this story Rainsford's skill, whit, determination, and persistence are put to the test over and over again in this game; the odds are not in his favor but he quickly grasps the reality that if he is to survive he must will himself to do so. Evidently, Rainsford's…

In “The Most Dangerous Game”, the author uses many methods to develop the characters and how they see the world, themselves, and others around them. First, Rainsford gets stranded on an island after he is talking to a friend on a yacht he was on about how the hunter is dominant and how the animals hunted do not feel anything which could be foreshadowing a change in the story and what it’s based on. After he arrives on the island, Rainsford immediately goes and sees a sign of struggle in bushes and hears shots fired. This, and the way that Rainsford was able to follow the tracks of the hunter, shows that Rainsford is a fairly efficient hunter; that is, showing the audience what the main idea of the story most likely is, which the hunter vs. the hunted.…

In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell shows that Rainsford is regretful, anxious, and fearful. First, it is shown that Rainsford is regretful due to the fact that General Zaroff gives him the option to play the most dangerous game or be whipped by Ivan, to which Rainsford chooses to play the game. Rainsford tries again and again to fall asleep at night, but he is helpless with his choice replaying in his mind. “Rainsford could not quiet his brain with the opiate of sleep.” Second, Rainsford’s anxiousness is shown because he is uneasy about the thought of not being able to see the day after next. Although he is a marvelous hunter, there is a possibility that he may be no match to someone who is undefeated in assassinating humans.…

In reality she is the complete opposite, even though Dellacroix seemed to be a friend to Mrs. Hutcherson, she is the one to pick up the largest stone and promotes others to stone her. “Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr.Summers- It wasn’t fair!” this refrain continues as she is selected and subsequently stoned to death, but instead of listening to her, the villagers ignore her, even her loved ones such as Bill. We observe Tessie's transformation from a normal and enthusiastic observer to a panicky, terrified participant. Whatever her motivation is for speaking, she was effectively silenced by society, emphasizing how ludicrous it must have been for the villagers to hear Tessie question tradition, as society just accepted it, with no questions. Old Man Warner, the oldest man in town who participated in 77 lotteries and is a staunch advocate to keep things the way they are. He believes illogically as he says “Next thing you know, they’ll be -live in caves” this suggests Warner believes and fears if the lottery is stopped the townsmen will return in…

Once Mr. Summers, the lottery host announced the Hutcherson family was chosen for the lottery, Tessie’s character immediately became aggressive and repeatedly argues that it was not fair. “...it was black.
