Throughout the short story we can find how Gabriel is feeling, and we notice how he is not fully heartbroken eventhough the one dead was his wife, but instead he is looking at her with curiosity. The point of view by which the story is being told gives us the opportunity to have an insider perspective at what is happening. By this point of view we can see how truly Gabriel is feeling at this sorrowful moment. We can read/see, how Gabriel was not the perfect husband, and he is not hurt by that fact. The point of view also helps the reader by describing the setting throughly, and it helps establish the setting as a dark moment, where everything seems to be black, the color of death.
