Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragic play, written in the 1590’s. Shakespeare is well known for being a significant playwright during the Elizabethan Era. The story follows the tale of two youth by the names of Romeo and Juliet. The children, Romeo and Juliet, were born into different families, the Montagues and Capulets respectively, which have been in a feud for years. After meeting each other in Lord Capulet’s masquerade party, the two fall deeply in love. Unfortunately, to their own dismay, due to the family's rancor toward each other, the children can’t remain with each other. In order to create peace between the families, the local friar (Friar Laurence) decides to marry the children, believing it would bind the families
However, a drastic turn of events leads to the death of both children. Lord Capulet decides to marry Juliet to County Paris, although Juliet refuses. Romeo proceeds to participate in a duel with Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, where he kills Tybalt after he murders Mercutio, one of Romeo’s friends. As punishment Prince Escalus (the prince of Verona) decides to exile Romeo from the city. Juliet, now heart-stricken decides to ask Friar Laurence for a method to escape marrying Paris in order to leave with Romeo. The friar gives her a sleeping potion, but an unexpected event leads to catastrophe. Based on the tragic play, Romeo and Juliet, the people who are the most responsible for the deaths of the star-crossed lovers are Juliet’s parents because they forcefully decide to marry Juliet and Paris, refuse to create peace with the Montagues, and refuse to listen to those that have higher positions
