    When the government constantly issues tiny borders for the Cherokee Indians, they do not take into account the reality that the Cherokee Indians don’t have anywhere to go. The land the government wants is the only home of the Indians. The government swiftly annihilates rebels and sticks to its plan to gain more land (Carnes, 1996). Although this might seem like a plan of perseverance, it is selfish, ensnares, and abuses others. The Indians have lost their kin and home because of wrong control. This piece of evidence is important because it reveals the personal desires of the government and its cruel ways to get what it wants (Carnes, 1996). This system of law keeps people powerless and dependent on the government. While the Indian’s homes are to be abandoned, they offer no solution to the problem, and depend on their leader, Sitting Bull. Sitting Bull proposes and leads an idea of peace with the Americans, but this all comes to an end when he is accidentally killed by a policeman.     Although often viewed as inferior, savage and helpless, many historians are starting to discover the intelligence and wisdom the Indians had and shared with the colonists that came to America so long ago. As the settlers slowly began to create a new world on the already inhabited North America, they were plagued with starvation due to a severe drought in the area. Due to the dry lands and the settlers expectations to “rely on Indians for food and tribute,” (Norton 17) they were disappointed to find that the Indians were not so keen to handing out food and help to the strangers that have just come onto their land and begun to settle in such a time of severe weather and starvation.     James Fenimore Cooper lived in a time of Indians, prejudice, and the Great Frontier. Many people of his time did not understand the ways of the Indians and frontier life, so they created a taboo and stereotypical view that Indians were brutal, lesser people and that the frontier life was for savages. Back then the ideal life was not that of a woodsman but that of a sociable noble, with high honor and values.
