The Dust Bowl is an area of land where vegetation has been lost and became dust and eroded. The Dust Bowl was located in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico. Over 650 million tons of topsoil blew away leaving piles of dust in houses. The Dust Bowl started in 1931 and ended in 1939. It lasted 8 years and caused 500,000 people to be homeless and 2.5 million moved out of the Dust Bowl states. “Some people thought the end of the world was at hand when every ray of daylight was obliterated at 4 P.M.” (Liberal News). About 500 and over died of pneumonia, dust, and others died from malnutrition. Some of the people died from suffocation of the strong winds and dust mixed together. Animals died from suffocation, and the lack of water and food. This caused problems because people raise cows to get food but, the cows died off and caused people to starve. The gardens withered and didn’t provide enough vegetables or enough food to feed families. This affected tons of families around the Dust Bowl states.

telling farmers what to do during the Dust Bowl. The Civilian Conservation Corps employed 3 million young men and planted 2 billion trees. They helped by taking better care of their soil so it wouldn't erode away. It takes thousands of years to produce soil. Why is it important to conserve it? It is important to conserve soil because you can plant trees, and grow food in it. If you don’t have good or soil, or possibly any, you wouldn’t have food to eat. In the Dust Bowl the soil dried out and wasn’t able to grow anything. This is a reason why some people died. That's how the Soil Conservation Service helped. By this time, everybody wanted to save their soil. And they knew where to turn too.
Everybody thought the dust would stop eventually. But, unfortunately, it didn’t. Everybody began to forget about it and accept it as their everyday lives. Nobody will ever forget about the devastating event that ruined millions of lives.
