During my K-12 education, I received benefits such as free or reduced price lunch and reduced fees on things like the ACT and waivers when applying to undergraduate schools. It would have been tough to attend college if it were not for financial aid assistance from the government such as the Federal Pell Grant or the Michigan Tuition Incentive Program.
Without Medicaid and Children’s
Special Health Care Services, my younger siblings, who have autism and cerebral palsy, they would not receive the services that they do. Because of our limited income and resources, my family also receives Supplemental Security Income for my siblings.
